Do you prefer to live with hot summers or cold winters?

I prefer the heat now that I am old and have arthritis up my spine. It is amazing what heat can do. When I was younger, it was different.

I’m a warm weather guy generally but when it’s too hot it’s unbearable and there’s nothing you could do about it in terms of how you dress to combat it whereas when it’s really cold you can layer and mitigate it somewhat. Texas summers, for instance, must be brutal not just because of the heat and humidity combo but also because they last like 5-6 months. Then again, it must not be fun to be in Duluth or Bangor for a 5-6 month winter. Eh, I’d probably choose the hot weather now that I think about it. I’m lucky in NYC that we have one of the most moderate climates in the country so I’m good here.

The further west you go in Texas the less humid it gets, the state sort of spans the climates that way. So in Houston, yeah, it’s like the swampy southeast. But El Paso is dry as the desert it is. My neck of the woods in central Texas starts off the year humid, but by the end of the summer is quite dry, so sort of a best of both worlds situation (though I’m not sure what qualifies as all that great about the humidity, save that it keeps the region very green even when we’ve got for a long time without rain).

I change my answer to hot Summer.

Yeah, I meant in the bigger city areas out east.

Central and West Texas might not get the same level of humidity but it’s very hot and the summers very long.

That’s from Cannonball Run. Correct?

Houston is America’s anus.

I spent a ton of time there when I worked at Dow, and the climate is total ass.

This observation also works anatomically, too, assuming Florida is America’s wang. And yes, that makes New Orleans the taint of America.

The climate is awful, I agree.

However the wide range of ethnicities and subsequent food, plus the complete lack of zoning make for a really interesting, unique experience. I have some close friends who’ve lived there forever and one of their houses was deep into a neighborhood, and on the corner of their street was a bar/restaurant. It was very strange but also pretty awesome, except perhaps on Friday/Saturday nights. They generally closed at 10 or 11 though and back then we were easily up that late.

Which is why their football team is colloquially known as The New Orleans Taints?

Florida pros: ocean, Nov-April weather can’t be beat.
Florida cons: summers absolutely suck. the wildlife. the greenery is prickly and tough - its not nearly as nice as it looks on postcards. That is when you aren’t in a swamp.

Michigan pros: summers, greenery i.e. soft grass and soft leaves on trees. not dying in fresh water lakes. really April-Nov is pretty flippin awesome honestly. I miss seasons.

Michigan cons: you can’t open the pool until like memorial day and you close on labor day. The winters suck, but really the issue is all the melt water that gets on your carpet and floor mats. And the salt. And snow shoveling. That all sucks bad. I could do like two weeks of winter to hit the highlights and be done. Maybe a week. And I’m good.

This sort of logic is exactly why snowbirding exists lol.

Clearly you have never lined your underwear with ice cubes. :joy:

On a serious note the hottest place I have ever been was Fiji, I thought I was gonna die. Australia was hot, but Fiji was insane. Was only there for a short vacation but wow never experienced that kinda heat and humidity before or ever again that Fiji had. It was Fiji summer though. So it might be bearable other seasons.

Bali was also really freaken hot. But I sure do miss traveling and seeing the world.

I prefer hot summers with healthy ace starting pitchers and good fantasy baseball teams.

The first really nice day to play baseball and I’m sitting in the dugout chatting on this board because I pulled my hammy pretty good by practicing in the cold weather the other day.

Spent my most of my childhood in Texas and my summers in Michigan.

I got the bright idea to go college in Michigan and actually had to brave Michigan winters.

I got back to Texas as fast as I could.

Now I’m a little older and chubbier the heat gets rough but extended cold weather depresses me

That’s it,

Man why can’t it just be 70 maybe 72 . Anything under 50 I’m freezing and anything over 80 and I’m dying of heat.

I allow one exception … I go back north from mid-December to Jan 1. Christmas in FL just isn’t good.
