Do you prefer to live with hot summers or cold winters?

Maybe. There are other factors for sure. Moderate climate if you can stay dry, populace that is lenient/compassionate towards the unsheltered, in many cases more robust services for people in that predicament, etc. But I do believe that the cost of shelter and living in general relative to the earnings capacity of certain strata of our communities is a contributing factor.

I voted Michigan because I’ve experienced summers in Houston and the Ozarks.

The Dominican Republic was nice. 80°/60°, 24/7/365. Tropical Island Paradise wasn’t an option, though.

Houston summers are brutal, only thing as bad or worse could be Charleston or Columbia SC. Ft Lauderdale is bad but at least you get the ocean breeze

Don’t disagree, I think a lack of mental health assistance and substance abuse also play a significant role.
