First off: this is not a “did Michigan cheat” thread.
I am hearing a lot more noise about Harbaugh being in the NFL next year—potentially Bears or Chargers. In all likelihood the NCAA may suspend him for a portion or all of next season. I think Harbaugh plays the victim card and moves on. My only concern for him is how his personality plays in the NFL. The dude is to put it mildly a little eccentric. I wonder if that works with grown men instead of kids.
Say what you want about him, the guy can coach—has won everywhere he’s gone. I think he would be great for a team with a young QB.
I think this is more of an esoteric, deep thought…
Jim Harbaugh IS coach. Does it matter where? Will dogs and cats finally find peace and live together? Will anyone discover the real price of tea in China? Why do we call fine porcelain “china”?
We cannot live in the past or the future, only the present. Hence, Jim Harbaugh Is Coach. That’s all there is, he just is.
I fully expect him to be coaching the Bears next season. Or possibly the Colts or even the lowly Carolina Panthers.
He clearly wants out of college football. And I do not blame him. It is a brutal gig now.
All the stuff he has been accused of (notice I am being nice) would not be a big deal in the NFL. Well I do not know the exact rules on scouting in the NFL so maybe that gets him into hot water but the point is you do not have all this other BS and recruiting and booster activities.
While he is a strange bird he has a pretty devote following with his former players so he must not be horrible to play for.
He like so many HC will need to have the right staff to make it work but he has shown the clear willingness to keep changing it until it gets right.
The Bears seem like the logical destination. There are a ton of influential Michigan alumni that live in the Chicago area. They also happen to be the same alumni that are staunch supporters of Harbaugh.
Unfortunately for us, I believe the Bears will be looking for their Dan Campbell and see it in Jim Harbaugh.
Big, fiery former Bear player and leader of men type. MCDC is setting the tone, perhaps challenging the proliferation of the geeky Xs and Os types and replacing it with a more relatable human leadership model.
If that happens, it sets up years of great clashes between the franchises, leaving the Pack and the Vikes in the dust IMO.
