if they get the Flagg sweepstakes, They are a playoff team, that starting 5 is gonna be really good all around.
Ingram is a rickety mess and has won absolutely nothing in 10 years. They need a couple more pieces as Barrett isnt that guy and Barnes is a 2nd fiddle on a good team and 3rd on a contender.
Dont like their chances, but it is better than running w the Siakam led group, so props for a rebuild that didnt collapse, as it easily can, like Indianaās is about to

along with Grady Dick, Boucher, and IQ off the bench
its a really solid unit overall, but they need to get Flagg first though.

To a degree, sure, yet, Weaver also hired the coaches who couldnāt make it work.

Weaver was awful. Cade was the number one pick for everyone. His FA SIGNINGS were terrible and his hires were even worse. Problem with the nba is you need two or 3 superstars to become elite. Pistons might get one in cade, but rest of the picks Probably wont sniff that category.

Theyāve been as much fun to watch this year as they have in the past decade or more. A lot of these young guys are still developing. Ausar is a damn good player who just needs to learn how to finish a little bit better and develop his jump shot just a bit more. The guy is a beast on defense though. Duran s another guy who has a lot of upside. Heās only 21 and his development is apparent this year. Defensively the team as a whole has been very, very good. I think another year or two in Bickerstaffās system and we can be legitimate eastern conference contenders. They need one more outstanding 3 point shooter. Hopefully they can retain Schroder for the second unit as well. Heās really had a calming influence with the bench guys, can score, and is a pretty good defender. Plus, we get Ivey back next year and he was showing some flashes before he got hurt. Exciting times for the Pistons.

Harden lit those guys up last night but that was by far his best game of the season. I still think they have a outside chance at the five seed. They have a tough schedule stretch coming, but they play Milwaukee the last two games of you so if theyāre in Striking range it could happen

Harden was otherworldly last night. Had 23 points in in the first quarter. It didnāt matter who the Pistons put on him. He torched them all.
But 75% of his picks excluding the coach is the reason for their resurgence. That canāt be disputed. Now, had they turned over most the roster prior to JB then I wouldnāt give Weaver credit.
The different phases of a team/ constituent Parts donāt happen in a vacuum so with a ton of High pics even if you hit on a few if youāre free agents suck and youāre coaching is garbage and your development is targeted it doesnāt really matter about the positive aspect that you got right because the rest of it tears it down.
Killian Hayes was a gigantic awful terrible historically bad Miss. Unforced error of Colossus of Rhodes proportions.
Stuff from the positive side what weāre talking about is getting beef stew and Iāll even count Bae in there as well in that draft where he did. Seemed weird that the guy who was the number two High School Prospect coming out fell so far but now weāre kind of seeing why heās not really a starter level guy in the league though he is valuable.
KCade was an obvious pic weāre not going to date him for it or give him a plus for it. I really liked the ivy pic and it was clear he was going to take a little bit of time to adjust his game to the pros, but money Williams really screwed this thing up with him to the point where I didnāt know if he was going to recover and Iām very happy he did.
Thompson in my opinion was an obvious pic at that point too but weāll give him at least a half positive for not screaming up and taking some kind of project guy there
But this illustrates my point to a degree which is the only positive weāve ever had certainly had the shine on its star diminished because a couple of the big positives were really no brainers that a drunk monkey could have done so heās not really showing me his credibility as a team Builder there, and then he failed miserably everywhere else so yeah I know weāre not going to give Weaver a whole lot of credit cuz he doesnāt deserve it

Credit for lucking into Cade Cunningham?
I donāt put the blame for the worst Pistons move maybe ever of hiring Monty Williams on Weaver but he completely botched the 2020 draft with three 1st round picks, one trade (the one for Stewart) in which he traded a 1st round pick that has been handcuffing them from making any significant trades for years, he brought in not one legit support player in his entire tenure outside of Jerami Grant.
The positives are the trade for Duren, taking Ausar Thompson, Jaden Ivey and taking the Cade no brainer. Other than that, he was a big bag of nothing. He didnāt do anything franchise crippling mind you but he didnāt do anything to really help the team either. Langdon in one offseason brought in more quality vets than Weaver did in his entire tenure. He was a solid scout, bad GM.
He deserves āsomeā credit for a few of the aforementioned picks, most of which were top 5 picks anyway (hard to botch that) but he did the bare mimimum needed to be a GM in the league.

But those core players had to mature. THese current players with Monty Williams coaching would be different imo. JB is good at coaching young guys. I still believe if the Pistons do win a chip, JB will not be the coach. TL is going to have to hire a coach that gets them to the next level imo

But, another very underrated mistake was turning down OKCās offer of a 22 year-old with initials SGA AND the number 6 pick for the number 1 pick (Cade).
The number 6 pick could have been Giddy or Franz Wagner.

Weaver, except for the Monty hiring and his infatuation with lefty big men, wasnāt terrible. In the drafts he made two big mistakes, but its easy to look back and say coulda woulda shoulda. He could have been much much better with all that ammo.
I like where the Pistons are at. And we seem to have an adult in the room (Langdon).

They said the shooters have to stand 15 feet away from the prisoner, or the same distance as a free throw in basketball. If I was that guy, I would have selected Ben Wallace, DeAndre Jordan, and Andre Drummond as my shooters. Likely wouldāve walked away unscathed.
