No you are spot on…..it is the same theory. He didn’t have the GRIT necessary, he wasn’t a culture fit…..he didn’t block.

I know Dortch is meh. He’s right where he should be, on a good teams practice squad. It’s the approach that bothers me. To me it looks like he was plan A, B, and C to replace Kalif.
I don’t like that. And I find it funny that majority act as if they “get it.” We have no depth beyond #3. Will it matter? Maybe not, but it’s still disappointing. And some acting as if there isn’t total justification in that baffles me.
Same goes for the RB position. Pacheco was your Monty answer? Knowing he’s been banged up for the greater part of 2 years??? Again…disappointing.

Monty I disagree with he is still better then 5 rbs on the roster not named Gibbs
He costs twice as much as the other 4 combined and didn’t want to be here playing 2nd fiddle to Gibbs

I’m old enough to remember everyone freaking about WR3, or letting Swaggy go, or trading Hock, or any number of the training camp darlings we let go.
Everyone who worried when Frank retired was right, but the timing of that was brutal. And he was a starter, not the churning depths.
In fact the depth issues that usually end up hurting us AREN’T the ones we’re worried about beforehand (like our DL 2 years ago, or DB last year), because you don’t plan on losing SO many guys. You can’t, not in the NFL. The roster rules don’t allow it.

Another rabbit hole I’m down now is what contender that had a top of market running back also had a substantial investment in their RB2
You would have to go back to Marty Hurney and the Panthers.
Paying Gibbs and keeping Montgomery doesnt have recent precedent for a good team if any team at all.

The defending champs had two second round picks at RB last year. They have a first and a second this year. I think from a finances standpoint @Wrath-SRT is likely correct, but I believe you are alluding to there is a healthy middle ground in terms of resource allocation. Our pendulum probably swung back too far the other way. My guess is that gets addressed next offseason unless a young depth piece steps up this year.

Well, we are one of the few teams with a FIRST round RB, so it’s hard to say we haven’t spent the resources on it, even though the resources weren’t for depth. And technically Vaki cost the equivalent of a 2nd round pick on the chart, so I think we’ve put resources there plenty. Honestly more than I would throw at it, though I would also take more day 3 punts. RB is a position where you can strike gold on day 3

We had put the most resources to the position. Now we’ve pulled back on RB2 bc of cost constraints.
Which I understand. I actually still think Vaki has a ton of potential. He’s naturally good at some of the football stuff you can’t teach. But I doubt he can stay healthy.
They did it last year. I don’t recall with who it was though.

We have two guys for depth on the PS.
We’re planning to run 12 & 13 personnel on 30-35% of the snaps.
Meeks is your emergency outside WR.
Vaki is your emergency slot WR.
Gibbs is expected to take a fair mover of snaps in the slot.
We’re not thin at all. That’s why they did it.
