Den Wide Mock Draft signups are open for those interested
Agree with much of this.
Forgot about Proctor - largely because he scares me. Itās interesting what you say about our o-line type. I donāt want a mammoth Bama guy with weight issues. Iād much rather have Fanoās lateral quickness. He looked very slick in the drills - for all Freelingās high RAS he did keep slipping - and Fano was, I think one of the few to do the 3 cone and I think did it very well. If they take Proctor ahead of Fano, arrogantly enough, it would make me question what we were doing.
Iād be surprised if we traded up. Holmes does tend to view the draft as an exercise in machismo - but what would be using to move up? The one thing everyone seems to agree on is that dipping into 2027 capital is a no no. We could flip our second but then we donāt pick for about a thousand picks and the team does have some holes.
Ooh, love the new avi
Thank you. Since ive been here ive never changed it but its a special occasion
The combine is set up for a guy like Fano to shine. Heās a super athlete with really refined technique and has a deep understanding for how an OL body is supposed to move. It just looks second-nature to him, and honestly it probably is.
His issues come in the scrum, the battles, the mano e mano phone-booth wars. Heās extremely flexible which allows him to recover from positions most guys canāt, but the reason he gets in those positions to begin with is a lack of core strength. And I donāt think thereās anything he can do about it.
Frankly no matter who takes him, I think his best long-term position is C. Yes, those battles in there can get fierce, but at center heād have help from a guard and be moving onto the 2nd level quickly anyway, where he can shine. But if weāre drafting him with the idea of shifting him to center⦠well thatās what we just did with Tate. If weāre drafting him with the idea of keeping him at tackle, I think thereās less of a chance of it working out. Heās something of a tricky fit, if Iām honest.
Balance issues were the biggest flaw on Freelingās tape for sure. It improved dramatically through the year though, but heās still got some work to do, clearly. Thereās also some baby deer aspects to him that I think will get reined in over time, sometimes it just seems like his brainās moving too fast for his body. Being next to Fano probably didnāt help, especially if it made him press.
I have Proctor 42nd overall and see him as a guard all the way, so yeah, I wouldnāt love the pick. But he does pack more power than pretty much any OL in the class, and that seems to be really high on the list of things we value at OL. And frankly if he ends up playing OG for us, Iād be fine with that. Covers for the lateral issues and he can just focus on power. I just donāt love the idea of using the 17th pick for it.
That said, Iād be pretty surprised if we didnāt like him, unless there are some character issues. It is what it is.
Yeah our lack of resources is the main reason I wouldnāt want to trade up, but if Brad is madly in love with a guy, I could see him doing it. Honestly if Bain falls to like, 12 or so (which imo is possible, FOs always overreact to outliers), and we flipped our 1st and 2nd to move up and draft him? Yeah itās a lot, but I donāt think we can rule it completely out.
I would totally do it to get a player like Bain. Dude is a stud. I think Brad needs to make a bold move like that to net us a stud player. Have we moved at all the past two drafts in the 1st or 2nd?
Two drafts ago we gave up a 3rd to move up for Terrion.
You see this. Corey from Daft on Draft is the source.
So I have a question: if you are okay drafting and saying āwell Iām not sure he can make it at RT but Iād still take him because he would be a fantastic OGā, couldnāt you say the same about Proctor? Honest question.
Oh shit! You see that one @HSVLion? Heās gonna drop like a stone if true.
Thatās news to me.
Hopefully he falls to 17.
I feel like one safety with degenerative knee issues is probably enough lol.
Of course if he falls as far as Will Johnson did last year with his own degenerative issue, then we might be in business.
Wouldnāt a degenerative ACL just mean that it goes and gets repaired. Cartilage is typically the scary red flag.
I have to wonder what team that āNFC Scoutā works for to be saying that.
We have entered smoke season.

It did officially begin after the combine, but this oneās pretty easy to double-check, especially for the teams (in fact I think they have a āsecondā combine for this specific reason, medical rechecks). Seems kind of pointless, itās not like it would actually get him to drop if his kneeās fine. Thatās why the injury stuff I pay mind too.
The character stuff, not so much.
I thought Tiernan looked outstanding in the drills and he also turned in the highest vert of all the O-Lineman at the combine. With those results and watching him for 3 years at Northwestern I would swear up and down he goes in the top half of the first round. Unfortunately he checked in with arms under 33 inches which means he canāt play football.
Heāll go in the 2nd and stick at T like Goedeke or Braden Smith, but itās almost always the right side for these types, which will be an adjustment.
