Draft talk 2025/2026

I wouldn’t rule out a corner or LB in the 1st and we wait again on DE. I just don’t think Brad really values the edge spot opposite Hutch as highly as the fans. He said it in one of his pressers “What do you mean we need an edge? We got Hutch”. Unless by some miracle Bain falls or something. I think Brad is more looking into the later DE prospects like Caden Curry.

I think Gulbin is my favorite college Center at this point. Obviously there is some sample size risk with only one year at the position. The flip side of that is that there is positional versatility. The folks that char (assumed) assignments were in love with his 2025 tape.

I’ve been mocking him to the Lions quite a bit lately. Its hard to gauge C though because we’ve got guys like Parker Lomu etc taking snaps at OC in case they can’t make it on the outside.

One thing I would really love to do is grab Lew on an injury discount. From what I gather he is a second round projection or so on these draft sites, but if he can’t play right away maybe he slides some and we can pick him up

We are going to like everything about Fano’s profile except perhaps one thing: he doesn’t have the power profile we typically go for in an OL. And his frame doesn’t really seem like one that will ever have it. That’s the only reason I don’t think he’s a slam dunk option for us. Now if we’re looking at him as a C only I think he might be more appealing to us since we tend to help our C out before letting him release, so it won’t quite matter as much.

Oh I wouldn’t rule it out either. We can’t go into the season with no nickel (maybe Maddox) and possibly no Terrion if his legal peril becomes a problem. DJ and Rock are okay but with the safeties up in the air man the secondary is a real concern

Yeah, maybe he can play OG for a year? Gain ten pounds? I dunno, but I do agree with you. There just isn’t that guy that checks all the boxes unfortunately. I just like OTs with good feet despite Kayden intriguing me a bit.

I’ve heard there might be some character issues, but you hate to say anything about them in profiles in case it’s just slander. But you’re not the first person I’ve heard this from.

I’m really just holding out until I see what we do in FA. I think there’s a good chance C is our flashy signing this year, and if so that would really affect how we approached it in the draft, especially since I think McLaughlin is our developmental guy.

Freeling is the best of all options. Great feet and clear pop behind his frame, though he needs to both add more consistent strength and keep improving his balance (can’t end up on the ground as often as he did early in the year). But I am betting he will.

Miller and Iheanachor have good feet. Not as smooth as Fano, but the same tier of athlete imo. They’re just not as technically sound yet. Of course they have other flaws in their profiles.

But I’m like you, I want my OL to be able to move. We were so creative with the way we ran our OL under Ben. I don’t love the gap-only plodders, but it does seem like our FO values power over fleetness of foot.

Big question marks with Terrion Branch and Kerby.

Pouncey’s mock is awesome. I would cream my pants if we ended up with this haul.

Can you tell us what the haul was or do we have to pay to see it?

Thats why im fine traded the 1st this year

Traded down to 24 with the Browns and added pick 70

24: Blake Miller, OT, Clemson
50: Malachi Lawrence, Edge, UCF
70: Kyle Louis, LB, Pittsburgh
118: Jalon Kilgore, DB, South Carolina
128: Jager Burton, C, Kentucky
136: Kaytron Allen, RB, Penn State
150: Tanner Koziol, TE, Houston
188: Dae’Quan Wright, TE, Mississippi

I would also be pretty thrilled with that haul.

I can’t say I am a big fan of Blake but the rest of that haul is quite impressive.

Kilgore at 118 and Allen at 136 seems like a dream. I will give him credit for at least doing a little research into our team needs when making the selections.

Burton might be my second favorite college Center for us. Lawrence seems like about the most twtitch we could possibly wish for. I LOVE Louis. Turning 17 into Miller and Louis is a coup. Like both the TEs quite a bit. Like Kilgore and Allen. Just a great draft. You could argue that we picked higher than we’re accustomed to and probably came up with solid starter rather than star. Though I think Louis has a chance to be a star.

I’ve made the point for months that a lot of good first contract players to offset all of our big players might be the best approach to this year’s draft. This mock is that draft.

I definitely don’t think the Lions are spending a 1st on a guy that needs to make a position change, they’d just move Tate and draft a guard later IMO

Well he IS one of our beat guys, so he should be all over it. In fact I had a back-and-forth with him on Louis since I learned that he loved him, just like I do. I’m trying to get him to find out if we’ll actually start using a guy like that.

I think he’s fine, I’d rather have him than Lomu and Proctor, and while I think Iheanachor has a higher ceiling, I think Miller’s more likely to hit his, even if it’s not as high.

But there’s no doubt we are gonna love all the intangibles Miller brings to the table. Pretty sure that’s why Pouncey went that route, he knows that too.

I want to like him, but man the UK fans aren’t very complimentary. He is new-ish to the spot so hopefully it was just growing pains, but apparently he had some real struggles. I didn’t think his tape was all that jarring though, no more lowlights than plenty of other options.
