What a rise for Dusty from Florida Atlantic to National Champ in two years to NBA coach of a Cooper Flagg led team immediately after. This has to be one of the most meteoric rises through the coaching ranks in history that I can recall.

Mara with Flagg and maybe Kyrie also makes a ton of sense. May has always liked his super tall centers.
To answer my own question:
It’s to have three players from that coach’s former team available for you to draft at your first round pick.

I’m not sure how Yaxel and Flagg fit together although I guess they could both be your two wings, and Flagg is basically a point forward anyway.
I think Mara is by far the best fit though. P.J. Washington…if they keep him…can still play the 4 for that team well.
What a slap in face to the players and fans. Yikes. May is a hell of coach but this isn’t right.

Just saw some bullshit about how the Mavs want to keep Kyrie.

And good for UM. Hired an absolute baller and dude did his job. I am not sure how anyone can be mad about it. Unless he stated he was a college guy for life this was always on the table.
UM got instant return on investment which is pretty insane when you think about it.
As a State fan I am not sure this changes much. With NIL and proper support UM can be good always. Juwan was a hot mess but they should be able to find a solid coach to replace May and with NIL I think you do not see the movement you might have otherwise.
