I like this deal for all sides. One would think that 1st rounder is going to be in the mid-20s or later in 2028 and a 5th in next draft. Not a bad deal for a perceived #1 WR. Eagles get a 5th and 1st and move on from a player that never seemingly bought in. Brown goes to somewhere that will likely use him more to his liking. If he likes his usage, he will be worth the cost. If not… then that will directly reflect on the player.
It may be more valuable to that coach and GM but it doesn’t have any more intrinsic value
I would rather have the Rams first round pick in 2029 than in 2027, the odds are that will be a better pick.

But that said, I’ve detailed above that teams (other than the Lions) won’t typically give up more than the value of a 5th round pick to gain the time premium and even that level of sacrifice is fairly rare. So yes, a current pick is more valued than a future pick but it isn’t THAT much more valued.
We never see teams trade future 1sts for current 2nds any more like we once did. We don’t see teams trading future 2nds for current 3rds. And only the Lions have traded future 3rds for current 4ths in recent history. Empirically we can measure exactly how much excess value teams place on future picks versus current ones.
So the void years don’t stay with the Eagles then? They move to the Pats?
Why in the world would New England agree to that
looks like a tragic midair collision is about to unfold here
Why would it matter? The Pats are only responsible for the cash payments for Brown in 2026-2030. The void years help spread out the cap charges, from the Patriots perspective, I’m not sure what’s not to like.
And actually, those are option payments, I’m not positive, but they can decline the options and recognize cap charges equal to the cash payments . . . but you still get to the same place.
