Eberflus FIRED!

Chicago has more talent than their record shows. They played all 3 division games tough, took the best team in the division down to the wire… Took the 2nd best team to OT… And the 3rd best beat them on a heart breaking blocked FG. They’re 1 or 2 plays away from winning those games.

We found that Caleb changed the play after the players were set. That caused the extra delay. Eberflus took the blame and never ratted the kid out.
Being fired may be a blow to your Head Coaching career. But he’s still gotta get his paycheck without the stress.
Take your rest Flus…Us Lions fans wish you were staying for our benefit.

I feel it’s easier to replace a good DC then it is a good OC

When I listen to Scotty Montgomery I think he might be the best HC candidate out of all of them.

I agree on their talent being better than their record, but Minnesota and Detroit absolutely wet the bed in the 2nd half. It took a miracle for them to force OT against Minnesota (Minnesota had that game well in control most of the game) and had our D not been completely exhausted due to injury, I don’t see the comeback there either. We also went away from the run for some unknown reason.

Mix of both

Chicago is talented, but mistakes from both of us kept them in the game

Divison games are like that sometimes

Still, Eberflus cost them 4 games here, where they could easibly be 8-4, and very much in the race for the playoffs and the divison

now they cannot win it anymore, and are out of the playoff picture now.

Actually some of the worst coaching ive seen in my life, not even Matt Patricia was this bad.

Eberflus probably was fired this season no matter what. And he was probably fired after the debacle yesterday. But good lord, man, at least have the good sense NOT to try some stupid PR stunt over how the last 30 seconds was handled correctly. That sealed any fate.

I still can’t believe he tried defending that.

Fall on your sword: “That one’s on me. I have to coach better, and I let the team down and told them that.”

At least you have your dignity, but now that’s gone too.

I dont think ive seen Bears fans hate a man more since Trestman

Eberflus is legendary level of bads within the Fandom lol

Exactly Nate! Guy botched it yesterday in game when asked about it after!

I don’t think Ben will want to work for Poles.

Truth on the coaching!! By all accounts, at least Eberflus is a decent person and treats others with respect (despite not being a good HC). Patricia was just a prick AND wasn’t very good at coaching.

Coach either goes full dumbass OR won’t hang his QB out to dry.

FO hangs coach out to dry by letting him get the full WTF tratment in a presser, THEN firing him?

Tell me more about how Ben or anyone else wants to go there.

Bears are going to get mayyyybe the 6th guy on their coaching wishlist, and Caleb will kill him off in under 40 games.

I’m not going to say what I’m thinking, beyond Poles needs to go, too.
There is a way to fix the Bears and entice quality Coaches.

Everything I read about Ben Johnson last year was that he is not interested in taking a job with a questionable organization. Like, that’s why he backed out of the Washington job at the last minute, supposedly, or at least one of the reasons. Chicago will be a dumpster fire until ownership changes, anybody who signs onto that should know what they’re going to get.

Move them to Omaha?

This isn’t shocking, but I agree with Thats2 the Bears are in a horrible state. If I am a prospective head coach, here is what I am looking at.

Most HC’s come in hoping they can choose your own QB and develop him. Chicago already picked Caleb, so no dice there. Ok, let’s say you are a coach who believes you can build on Caleb’s game. What is Caleb known for? Improvising, and playing off script. I will say it again, Chicago has a fractured lockerroom. A lot of guys were really mad that they shipped off Fields instead of building around him, and Caleb is a different breed in terms of personality. Remember, this is the same guy who before being drafted, wanted an ownership stake in the team and who yells at players to clean the locker room.

So now you are going to a team that you didn’t get to pick your guy, and the guy they have no is known for going off script so how much will he take to your coaching? You are either going to have to let him do what he wants and live with the brain dead decision making for the sake of hero ball, or try changing him at which point you will be criticized for going against what Caleb was known for and risk him just going rogue anyways, which is what he just did to end the Detroit game.

Remember, your job as HC is going to be to make it work with Caleb, no matter what, because Chicago is fighting the narrative about “we can’t have another QB fail.” Meaning no matter what, Caleb is now running the show and you are stuck with him. If I were Ben Johnson, there is no way I touch the Chicago job. I think Chicago’s about to get a hell of a lot more toxic than it already was. I fully expect as soon as the offseason hits, guys who can will exodus out of there and we are going to hear more behind the scenes story of their dysfunction. Just like we witnessed with the Lions in the pre-Campbell years.

I think @Thats2 is right about the situation. I think @BigNatty is right when he said Williams won’t make it 3 years in the league, and I think @Weaselpuppy is right when he says that Caleb will kill his next future coach in 40 games.

I remember when fans used to say this about the Lions…

Right but with us there was at least a clear path of inheritance. The old lady running the Bears intends to split it up between multiple heirs, with none having power over the others. I’m sure that will go swimmingly.

What an ascension it has been for Thomas Brown… 20 days ago he was the passing game coordinator, then the OC, now he’s the HC :joy:

If we lose AG in the offseason, Eberflus is worth a look at DC. He’s a a very good DC.
