ESPN purchases NFL Network

This creates a huge NFL monopoly situation. We are approaching a time where no one will get any NFL games for free, even in local markets.

Curious to see how if it actually goes that route; no games on broadcast channels anymore.

ESPN already has conflicts within CFB imo, see how this plays it

The site I used over the last couple years for pirating was shut down mid season this year

I’m resigned to the fact that we are near the end of the golden age for watching sports. I’m getting every Detroit baseball, football, basketball and hockey game for about $100/month (except the exclusive Apple or Peacock games). In three years, that’s gonna be impossible. Its why I don’t mind losing a bet here and there on Fanduel – its supporting the network.

Still a couple out there

Oh I’m sure… I mostly used it for hockey games bc I don’t get most Red Wings games on antenna. I can get all the Lions games, so I can survive on that… I don’t need (or have time) to watch every game out there.

Unless congress changes the law, local markets will always get their games over the air tv. They passed a law in like 2007 or 2008, since teams use tax payer dollars or tax breaks for new stadiums, the local markets are allowed to view them for free…its why they are always simulcast on the local stations when on prime or netflix

Doesn’t feel like laws matter at all these days. Mix that with the power of a Disney/NFL marriage, and the dollars will drive all decisions. Congress is powerless against big business lobbyists.

why doesn’t that happen when they are on Apple or Peacock?

I have to agree with you here. And this is for sports in general. The times I’ve been back home I don’t get to see the Tigers/Pistons/Red Wings because I don’t have fanduel. I do, however, have Amazon Prime so I see basketball games on it at home. But on the road not all hotels carry prime or any internet TV….so TV sucks on the road sometime because it ain’t shit on but debate shows. But yeah if you listen to some of our Technicians a few of them have said that Amazon could buy every sport and broadcast it. They got more money than any of the Networks

People used to get the games for zero dollars a month.

Monopolies are against the law in the United States.

Its funny watching money at work. ESPN has been mismanaged and declining for years. Rather than focus on managing their own brand better, they acquire another entity to race it to the bottom.

Not sure how ESPN buying the NFL network creates a monopoly. As far as I know the NFL still has large contracts with CBS and FOX
