I have stayed consistent in my evaluation of Goff. Pretty Smart, Tough, great leader and teammate. Well below average arm strength, can’t move in the pocket, major limitations due to pathetic athletic ability. It’s not going to change. Goff can’t succeed without an elite oline. It literally is not possible.
We are a timing offense. We don’t play anyone in the preseason. We are always a slow starting offense. We obviously have to work through our IOL transition. Everyone needs to chillax.
Is it really over reacting when you suck on both lines and your play calling on both sides of the ball is atrocious? There is literally nothing positive to take away from today’s game.
Yeah….. If you think Goff can move around in the pocket like Brady then you have no clue. If you think Goff can move around like Manning at the same age then you have no clue.
I like Goff and want him to succeed but he will stink this year because of the lions offensive line play. There is nothing more to it.
This is the biggest concern… Glasgow completely missed the DT when they were backed up on their own goal line… Monty was lucky to get out of the endzone. The OL needs to get figured out ASAP or all the skill position talent won’t mean shit
The defense didn’t give up over 300 yards and I’m not sure the Packers crack 20 points if they didn’t get the ball at the Lions 35 and 28 in the 2nd half.
Problem is even if they shut the Packers out in the 2nd half this game was never in doubt
Yep, and I have been saying for years (just go through my old posts) that we had better draft or get a replacement because he might retire soon and that we can’t get a good replacement in no the round or such. Rags was the best center in the league and we needed to replace him with talent on that same level, and damn if we didn’t sit on our ass and allow him to retire with no replacement even close to his talent level. We will pay dearly for that decision this year. We are already paying for it.
Ben Johnson wasn’t the OC in 2021 and the team did improve.
He was a great OC but I don’t think he’s irreplaceable. I do think that we went cheap on our OC and DC budget though and let better options go to other teams. How much of that is Dan / Brad versus Wood / Sheila remains to be seen.
Said it in the other thread, but Morton worries me. The play design was extremely pedestrian. Very basic routes. Plain Jane running plays. Almost nothing creative in the box. The design wasn’t allowing WRs to get open.
It was an offense designed for a league that died 20 years ago. That’s what concerns me.
Hey, we will see. Long season. I think the history of the game of football basically has shown that OLines that get new personnel will in fact get better as the season progresses. Especially OLines that lose an OC that is relied upon as much as Rags was. Unless the replacements are simply not talented. I don’t believe that is the case with the young OGs. We’ll see with GG and whether he is just washed or what.
It was odd the 4 or 5 times it looked like Goff had ample time to throw and no receivers open.
For the last few years (at least with Johnson) there always seemed to be an open receiver. Reynolds or Patrick or St. Brown always seemed to be in a position to make a catch. It’s why it shocked me when there wasn’t one.
