I love this stuff.
Every team in general feels they get better when they lose a player and get better when they get a player. It matters not it seems who comes and who goes.
I think we all wanted some change at CB. So change has happened. I will say that one can not just look at a play or 2 and say a player stunk. When Barnes whiffed on that sack of Dak was it really the DBs fault hat he gave up the TD to Lamb??? So just because Davis gave up a big play does not in itself mean he was bad. The whole scheme and the play called matters.
I don’t remember the gentleman that offered his fine opinion of CD. Ian Beckles played for the Buccaneers from 1990-1996. Seems a little dated.
I think it is fair to point out that CD did have a down year last year. I am not sure that is a particularly hot take.
However, a down year doesn’t make him dust and I do have some belief that a legitimate portion of his “down year” was Tampa playing to his weakness. I do expect a bit of a bounce back this year based on how I expect that we will utilize him.
Now to go out of your way to throw shade on someone you never played with… well the headline is worse than the actual comments but still not overflowing with class.
At the end of the day, I do believe CD improves our CB room. I am bummed about our loss at CB. Room would have been comfortable if Sutton was still in play. (but I do believe the Lions did the right thing in their handling of that.)
Before this past year I was really high on Davis as a player. I think I even mentioned him as a possible trade candidate or FA addition back in like 2021, and I know @CuriousHusker did a couple of times, as recently as March 1st:
You did and are correct. I also think many aren’t looking at how both, two db additions, were used in their previous team and how Detroit will utilize them.
Yes Carlton played mediocre last year. They square peg round holed him making him play 85% zone. He is only an average cb in zone coverage. He is very good at man. He barely played any man snaps last year so he didnt play to his strengths. He is the opposite of cam sutton. Cam was good at everything but man (until he went off the deep end mid season). Carlton Davis is good at what we want to do more often.
I opened the link expecting to hear from a teammate who played with him.
I’m was less concerned with a former player who retired 24 years ago. At that point he’s basically a fan. A fan who strangely enjoys fitting the name ‘Carlton Davis’ in his sentence an unnecessary amount of times
