Former Bucs player rips Carlton Davis

Well no offense to many on the board, and I’m one to be included, there are some opinions on players that I value more than others when it comes to players. This includes players in the draft and in the league, thats2 and curious are two of those I hold in high value.

So, for me to clarify, when they point out a player being worth looking at, it carries far more weight even if it is only once or only two out of numerous posters.

WHAAAATTTTTTT??? You just left me off that list because I’m a Notre Dame guy

It may have been dart throws as you say, but people wanted him because they liked him. And his talent has been discussed on here for a long time.

Plus a lot of people suggesting he would be a good FA add a couple of years ago, and CH saying the same this offseason.

He was not a guy who came out of nowhere, many on here thought he was a very, very good player.

Now Amik I can agree with. Few had thought about him since his draft year. But a lot of us liked him that year too.

Yep it’s amazing as smart as some are and even players miss this fact, Davis had a bit of a down year because of them playing more zone and not to Davis’s strength. AG wants to play more man witch Davis is one of the best at that and that the reason Holmes and Campbell wanted him. Same with Robinson the guy was better playing outside man.

You’re off the list just, because, well, because you are.

I get it… I wasn’t around the board in 2021 so I don’t remember that. But keep in mind 3 years ago

Kenny Golladay, Romeo Okwara, Marvin Jones, etc that was then. That FA group. Many moons ago

Now I’m not taking anything away from anybody’s talent evaluations…

All I’m saying is CD3 & Amik Roberson, besides a dart throw here or there getting mentioned…the only thing we ever heard about them was Craig throwing the block of the year and steamrolling him.

Not to be a debbie downer… Sutton & Moseley were the next big things last year too.

That’s all I’m saying…I hope it works out for us but let’s not act like the problem is solved with just these 2 signings

I stand corrected!

Who’s better than a 30-years retired D-lineman to assess CB play?

I, too was expecting to hear from a player he actually played with on the Bucs and now is a former. Not someone who once played for the Bucs before Carlton was almost born.

Maybe around your haunts, but Carlton Davis has been a known entity since he was drafted pretty much. Whether it was adding him in FA, discussing how Tampa was hitting on Day 2 DBs (also Dean, Winfield, etc…), how he was one of the highest-graded CBs in the league via PFF, Carlton Davis had been good since he entered the NFL. He’s no mystery, he’s been one of the best CBs for a long time. I don’t know why he escaped your notice, but he’s definitely not only the guy Netflix blocked.

He was PFF’s #3 overall FA CB when he hit FA, here’s what they had to say about him:

Now I know what you’re trying to say, and with Amik I agree (and to a lesser extent Moseley last year). Sutton was a favorite in FA but that’s cause he was free. If Davis had been a FA this year and not required, he would have been brought up A LOT more.

He’s in the final year of his contract and only 27 years old. I would have to believe their is extra motivation to have a great season and earn another decent 2-3 year contract.

Same time Tom Brady was a free agent. Basically

Just sayin man

I know what people said about him years ago, I know what people said about him when he was a draft prospect.

Jman you seem to be dieing on a hill, alot of people didn’t talk about him because he wasn’t a FA this year, but when he was a couple years back a few of talked about him. You seem like this guy to being missing some fact about Davis. This guy’s is dewling on his drop in production last year , I just want to know if he knows the difference in man and zone. Davis is and has been one of the top man CBs in the league. Glenn wants to play more man. Davis is a great fit here.

I agree, I think both guys are fits

And Brad is the smartest guy in the room.

I like it a lot better than Sutton (Steeler Free Agent signing)

Bummed we had to give up a draft pick but I think he’s going to improve our defense for sure.

That being said, I HOPE Brad doesn’t think we are fine at CB now

A lot of talent in this draft for the now and the future

And I distinctly remember Amik being a preferred day 3 option of many at the conclusion of that draft’s day 2.

Right. He hasn’t been talked about much since he was drafted, but many on here loved his playmaking ability at La Tech. In fact I think there were a few people - can’t remember who at this point - who absolutely loved him.

Not me. It might be slightly better than what they ended the playoffs with but I’m concerned not only about outside corner but the secondary as a whole. Corner is shallow, not sure if Amik is even a quality starter, and safety is very young and shallow as well going into the draft. I don’t see one highly and healthy quality backup anywhere
Obviously nobody could see the Sutton situation coming so …bad break there but the Lions secondary is still a significant weakness IMO.

A voice of reason. Good job by Brad filling the voids, 2 starting CBs in free agency.

But to act like these guys ARE the answer because someone posted about them the year they were getting drafted (along with the other 200 prospects) isn’t anything to me.

I’m guessing Brad don’t really believe so anyways, that’s why he kept the 1 year deal for CD3 and a reasonable 2 year deal for Amik.

Now draft the future CBs

There is lot’s of tape with them playing the scheme that AG wants to play in Detroit, playing it quite well, very well even. That is the reason many are confident going into the 2024 season, not because someone thought higly of them the year they were getting drafted.

A lot more discussion and tape were brought here in previous threads when they were signed, and you know that. Do they still have to show it on the field, yes, but they have successfully shown it at the NFL level.
And yes, I want more DB’s in the draft.

Thank you
