Former Tennessee QB Hendon Hooker is officially in a bad situation - A to Z Sports

The Hooker pick was a great pick. An athlete is what you want to have as a backup QB. Those kind of guys can win games for a stretch if needed.

The first 5 picks capped off with HH was my favorite Lions draft of all-time.

It Hendon Hooker becomes a cheat code in camp lights up the preseason and is too good not to play then who cares if he will be 29-30 when he takes over for Goff?

Or if Goff is still balling teams will know and we can flip that third round pick for a better pick(s) and draft another toolsy developmental QB

Even if you just get a 4th out of hooker down the road he was worth it imo. Under our QB dynamic it was important to draft one. I don’t see how anyone can view it as a bad decision.

truth. As much of a Goff homer I’ve been, I was saying for years we should draft a developmental QB in the middle rounds. Was saying that actually going way back through the Stafford years too

Getting a high potential high character guy like Hendon was a score. And gives us layers of safety. Goff has stayed healthy through his career. But if Rodgers and Cousins taught us anything this year it’s….shit can happen man. Have to be prepared.

Imagine we’re 11-3 hurtling toward the playoffs and suddenly….Blough is the QB. Oof

Championship level teams need Championship level backup quarterbacks the position is too crucial to the team to try and save money or picks at that spot.

Hooker was the perfect pick because he has close to the talent level of the top prospects but also has the experience of the guys you usually find later in the draft who didn’t come out early so theoretically he should be closer to a finished product and need much less time to become a reliable go to option at the backup spot while saving us a bunch of money over what it would cost to get a high-end veteran quarterback.

All I can say is, Hooker needs to light it up in preseason, and do the same if Goff ever gets a game or 2 off for whatever reason.

LIGHT IT UP HENDON! (if ever given the chance to)

Check this read out

It is obviously only one take but…. In it it states the average age for a starter: 28

If we keep him fine

If we have to start him fine

Or

We may trade him….

Even if he didn’t start for us until 30, we could… have him as a starter forn5-10 years…

Sometimes us fans worry to much imho

I just want us to keep wining and get that ring this year!!

One thing I like about Hooker is his mobility. We have issues against mobile QBs and Hooker can simulate some of those scenarios.

This is the life of a 3rd round QB, you aren’t anointed the starter like a 1st rounder, you have to come in as the back up and prove yourself. If you’re good enough, you can earn your playing time, Brock Purdy did it.

I really disagree, I think Hooker is in a really good spot, Goff is one of the best pure passers in the game, he can learn a lot from him. Plus he gets to work with Ben Johnson.

Most teams have to start 2 or even 3 qbs each year. The lions have been very lucky with goff and his durability. A starting level backup qb is very important in the NFL. We would be talking about what qb do they draft in the middle rds this yr to be goff backup if not for hooker being picked and groomed last yr.

Hooker was a 3rd rd pick and so was Bo Derek Martin. I like the Hooker pick better.

Yeah, although I’m not sure Love got anything from AR outside of his own observations but sitting didn’t hurt him.

Beans!

Exactly. We drafted him with the hope that he never starts a regular season game for us

Vikings would have been a legit playoff contender this year

then
Joshua Dobbs and Nick Mullen

…This is why we have Hendon

Just by the odds, Hooker will play multiple games on his rookie deal. I hope Goff doesn’t get injured, but it’s almost a guarantee at SOME point in the next few years. If he plays really well, he’s trade bait or the future… If not, he’s a backup that’ll resign for cheap

The writer sounds like he doesn’t believe in him.
Why not? You have to win your position every year. That includes QB.

Get in there Hooker, fight your ass off, and let the best man win.

I’m rooting for the kid. A QB battle would be a terrific situation to have.

No man. We drafted him to push Goff. Put heat on him. Make him get better. And maybe just win the job. As Dan said, we have no idea what we got. Its not impossible to be better than Goff.
