Former Tennessee QB Hendon Hooker is officially in a bad situation - A to Z Sports

As of week 10 last season there were 10 rookies QBs from the 2023 draft that started a game…. Like thrown into the first deals for most….

While the trends are for more to start this next year; imho it’s a bad trend

Hooker was able to heal physically without getting hit in a real game and that will pay him dividends no matter where he goes

2024 he will he able to focus on the game and trusting that knee…. I love it

If I was Hendon Hooker and felt I could start in the NFL…id probably ask for a trade.

Dan said “we dont really know what he is…”

But, if I am Hendon Hooker and roughly 2/3 of the NFL cant a starting QB…yeah…id rather be traded.

He needs to take live snaps though because Hendon doesn’t know what he is as a QB or where he is right now in his development.

It’s true he was a highly touted QB prospect leading into the draft and likely would’ve been drafted higher had he not torn his ACL, but the reality is he’s a 3rd round pick and has a lot to prove before he starts throwing demands around.

I guess if it was me and I was confident, id press for a trade. Get with a team that wants to make me a starter. Learn their system. Get a jump on things.

Glad we have him. But If I feel im good enough (he is better than Ridder or Zack Wilson…Aidan O’Connell…)

I mean…

Tough to sit on the bench if youre not the future starter.

Injuries happen and Holmes understands this. Everything can change in a new york second in the nfl. I like where Hooker is honestly.

A guaranteed 1st-round pick before his injury that falls to the 3rd round and can wait behind a starting QB to learn the NFL game for 2-3 years? How is this a bad thing? If he doesn’t pan out, oh well. Lots of time to replace him.

Also, QBs behind a solid line can play until they’re 40. His age isn’t a gigantic issue.

He will be almost 30yo.

Maybe he plays until he is 40? Its possible…

But…i am just saying if I was HH…im getting my starter career going.

That is all.

The problem though is that it’s not realistic due to the fact that he hasn’t thrown a pass in a game yet. Besides he’s on winning team and learning the position behind a really smart QB in Goff and a smart coordinator in Ben.

Also there’s no precedent, that I can think of anyway, where a 3rd round pick or later is already demanding a trade to another team in his 2nd year.

I am not a precedent type of mind. I take care of myself and do what I feel I need to do.

Precedents are dogma in my opinion.

Precedents and dogma…

No way to spend your limited time here.

He gets a few years to learn under one of the smartest QBs who is one of the best pure passers in the game. One of the best, if not best OC in the game and probably the best collective coaching staff

Why would he ask for a trade?

The best teacher is experience.

It’s unrealistic is what I’m saying and it’s not how things work. What you call confidence other teams are calling unproven arrogance. You may very well believe in your talent, but I know if I’m a GM from another team I’m thinking “This kid hasn’t thrown a pass yet and he’s already demanding a trade from the team that drafted him in the 3rd round no less?” Not exactly a “team” mentality. You haven’t thrown a pass yet and you’re giving up on the team that drafted you due to what you “think” you can do and not what you can actually do.

If you light up the preseason and show just incredible talent then you can start building your case. Otherwise it’s not a smart “business” decision IMO to demand anything considering you haven’t done anything.

And I’m a Hendon Hooker fan.

Personally, this does not bother me at all. NFL teams always find something wrong with the individual. It comes down to one thing:

Are you a winner and do everything that winning entails?

They make it so complicated.

He wore nail polish.

He cried.

He yelled at a teammate on the sideline.

Do they do the off-field stuff to be successful (which is what being a winner is about)?

Can they be a commanding presence in the huddle (again, which is what being a winner is)…

If they can be a winner…they can wear a speedo to practice and I wouldnt care.

Your going off on a tangent. A winner proves it on the field and Hooker will get his chance to do so.

No, no tangent.

Where will Hooker get a chance to prove it?

This is the whole point of this discussion.

It starts with showing up to practice and learning. Then you get to apply what you learned in the Preseason. Mahomes had to do the same thing as did every other QB. Hooker is not exceptional in this process nor should he be.

Hooker wasn’t able to do any of those things last year due to his injury. He wasn’t able to show what he can do. This year he will it’s as simple as that.

I think Hook will improve a TON. I also think it is a big deal that he’s 3 years younger than Goffster.

I am just saying that if Goff is our future, Hendon is not. In that case, he should seek to be traded and start learning a system elsewhere.

And I am not sure how enticed I am with turning to a 30yo Hendon Hooker after a few years if we hold onto him.

Thats my only point, not only for our organization, but for Hendon Hooker.

Again, he is better than, or has more potential than, many of these QBs that started an NFL game this past season.

Just sayin’

Yeah it’s very possible Hooker will play lights out which means that’ll put Detroit in a fortuitous situation. Teams will start making calls. Again Hooker has to show it on the field first though.
