Rodgers did 3yrs in college, Hooker did 6yrs plus he couldn’t do anything his first year in the pros.
Rodgers was drafted in the 1st round, he was always going to start. Hooker was drafted in the 3rd, he needs to earn his starts. Even injured, if teams thought he was a first round talent, they would have drafted him there, but they didn’t even take a flyer on him in the 2nd.
At some point, Hooker will get his chance to play an NFL game, but lets see how he does in the pre-season.
so, is his position worse now? are we going to showcase him in preseason and see if we get trade offers? I thought the pick was a bit odd when we did it, I mean the guy has talent but I figured when we took him we had steeper needs.
What would need to happen is for Hooker to get a Matt Flynn opportunity in week 18 because the Lions clinched the NFC Norris division and/or home field throughly the playoffs then ball out like Flynn did.
We will be undefeated, in the 12th week and clinch the earliest ever division title…. We let hooker split the remaking games and we still go undefeated with a SB win to boot
hooker stay here another year because he loves it here and we do this all again in 2025
Plus he has a good chance at getting a ring.
Then maybe the Lions can trade him for whatever compensation they can get and he gets a chance to start somewhere else. He is learning but not at the expense of being battered in live action while not ready. (one possibility)
I don’t see the situation as such a bad place to be.
At the moment no, but that could change. He has tools and character. If he has a great camp, he starts to become a commodity in the league. That could eventually give him a 2nd or third round return if he shows he’s got what it takes.
His value for 2024 is Goff insurance. That’s worth a lot more than draft pick for a team that expects to make a playoff run this year.
I don’t think so? If Hooker proves he can out perform Goff, Goff will be holding the clipboard until he is traded…or we rightly should demand managements head.
