Yep. I said over and over that I wanted Bijan at #6…but, I also knew who Gibbs was.
When you’re starring a generational talent in the face, positional value goes out the window.
My point is often teams are clearly looking at the big picture. Those 2-3 games he played are going to play huge dividends. Will allow him to have a super productive off season.
I didn’t know anything about Gibbs when we picked him and had some serious trepidation, but I’ll give it to you guys who knew all along. I remember @bignatty in particular saying we hadn’t seen anything yet before this season
It takes five seconds to find the original Gibbs pick thread here and, oooooh man, some of us were really off on this one. I remember when the pick was made and my son (the Eagles fan) didn’t even laugh, he just said, “Dad, you’re not going to like this.”
haha. I just got done reading through that whole thread. It’s interesting to see everyone’s reaction. I can say with certainly the only thing we all agreed on is that we were all a little surprised
I watched over half the Alabama games that year and was shocked by that pick (not in a good way). Here are the RB stats. Gibbs was only marginally better on a per carry basis than Jase McClellan. Anyway, glad I was wrong about the doom and gloom of that pick. The Lions have certainly got more out of him than Saban did.
