Goff vs Stafford Career Stats (Why Goff is the Best modern Lions QB)

Wrong. I said after the trade that anything less than a Superbowl win would be a failure for them. And yes it absolutely was a stacked team.

Look for a post of me ‘laughing’ at it. You won’t find it.

I’ll tell you what is true though, most here, you and others laughed at the thought that Goff would be a successful QB here. Then he helps deliver our first divison title in 30 years… and out duels Stafford in the playoffs while the entire city is chanting his name

That was the view for many here if not majority after the Stafford trade.

I’m not trying to downplay winning a Superbowl but does it really mean anything?..is Nick Foles better than Buffaloe’s Jared Allen because Foles won a Superbowl? Would the Stafford Rams have beaten the Patriots? Would the Goff Rams have beaten the Bengals if Goff’s defense would have set a record for most sacks in a Superbowl, like the Stafford Rams did?

Matt made some great plays that Superbowl run…but he also got away with some dumb ones as well. That Rams team just as easily could have lost one of those playoff games as they won.

Again, not trying to take anything away but to me being a Superbowl winning QB doesn’t mean as much as to others I guess.

It’s funny that people like to say that his first year away from Detroit, Matt won a superbowl, like Detroit was holding him back…so why didnt he win a Superbowl these last 2 years?
What has Matt done since that Superbowl year when he threw 41 td’s and 17 int’s?..got hurt (which seems par for him) in 2022 when he threw for 10 TD’s and 8 interceptions in 9 games and had his worst rating since 2014. In 2023, he didn’t even hit 4,000 yards passing and only threw 24 TD’s to 11 int’s and had his 3rd worse rating since 2014.

He also missed two games….lets not forget that

Trading for Von Miller was a huge part of that SB run. Didn’t hurt that Kupp was able to stay healthy as well. Again, one of the fairest trades you’ll ever see in any sport. Happy Matt got a SB, but he’s the enemy now. ■■■■ Stafford until we beat the Rams in week one.

This whole Goff v Stafford thing is like arguing who would win between the hulk and Superman. Never gonna happen. Mythical situation.

Stafford (or any other qb), would do better with the hand that Goff has been dealt vs the hand that Matt was dealt.

Matt had to lift those teams. The current Lions team elevates players instead of relying on one guy to win.

Same principle as going for it over 45+ FG. If you don’t have a kicker, you play differently.
For a qb, if the offense sucks you play differently.

Love them both. NO WAY would I undo the stafford trade.

Yeah his first 10 games were pretty bad . And when he got better I gave him credit and have still been giving him credit. Jared Goff and his improved play doesn’t t take away from what Stafford has accomplished. You and Snaggs are always trying to shit on What Matt has done. Both are good QBs.

And as far as a stacked team go back and read before the season, it was said here, that there online wasn’t good ,there running game wasn’t that good, they lost a coach I believe. There was alot of talk.

The Oline wasnt that great the year before after they lost some veteran talent after their 2018 SB run and their stud center missed all of 2020

But in 2021 they were healthy and ended the season ranked seventh best in the league by PFF

Both Rams tackles and the center all graded above 80. The Lions in 2021 finished ranked 13th and nobody graded above 77. Nelson at RT was particularly dismal until Decker came back

But you are downplaying what he did. They weren’t just some plays. They were gamewinning decisive plays. That throw with suh barreling down on him to set up the game winning fg was clutch and elite. The no look in the super bowl was the same kind of thing.

How can the lions be a horribly run franchise, who draft horribly for decades, force multiple star players into early retirment and NOT BE holding someone back to some extent?

We all sit here and marvel at what Brad and Holmes have done here from coaching to talent aqquisition. When did stafford have this?

No one is sitting here and saying well, Goff has St Brown and BJ and Gibbs, thats enough. He should win w that.

The last two seasons the rams (first stafford and everyone else of importance save donald was hurt and they shut stafford down early) last year rams werent suppose to make the playoffs they were more likely to have the number 1-5 pick. That’s why come playoff time they called it mcvay’s greatest coaching effort and he said he fell back in love w coaching. Their defense was shit and they went to a more ball control run game oriented offense to protect it. Stafford has thrown for 4-5k and tds and stats arent everything and now he throws less and his team is winning and his stats arent impressive enough?

They are both damn good qbs…lions have sucked for decades. We dont now… Goff is the guy.

So a QB who wins a Superbowl is better than all the other QB’s who don’t win a Superbowl?

Is Nick Foles better than Marino?

What if we didn’t fold the 2nd half of the Championship game and Goff goes to his 2nd Superbowl?

Is Dan Marino better than Stafford?

And remember less turnovers is better. looking at the turnover ratio as a percentage of throws is ‘manipulating’ stats. Therefore Matt Barkley was the best QB last year

Don’t that same logic apply to Goff and Stafford?? Goff won a division title and two playoff games here in Detroit so there fore he is a better Detroit QB than Stafford!

I did not say that nor did I insinuate that. The conversation was in regards to what you were saying in regards to stafford. Your response to me seems like a tad over generalization…foles better then marino? Come on now…context is neccessary.

I have never in my life looked at someones turnover percentage… of throws… or whatever. And I doubt most fans never have either. And why would anyone? Goff leads all QB’s in TO’s since 2017. That’s what I look at, and I see it in games. Since his Ram days. That’s a fact. This whole percentage of, throws, ratio, back in 2018 combined with 2020, when that guy is healthy, when this guy is injured, the square root of the power of… thats what u guys sound like.
