He’s a superstar when kept clean. I have the sinking suspicion though that this means we’ll always be pouring more resources into keeping this formula going at the expense of our d. Im not complaining though, the formula is working.
I think we should look at a C/G sometime around the third and take an assessment of Decker and see how much longer he wants to play. Maybe a RT in the next few years
But that’s the best path irrespective of whom is throwing the rock
I know you’re kidding but it’s really worth underlining three points here.
This year at least, Jared Goff is the most accurate and top-3 least “turnover-worthy” QBs in the league when kept clean. Among all QBs when kept clean, he’s probably the best. That’s amazing.
It does NOT mean that he’s horrible under pressure. I’d like to see that chart. I think he has that rap because he suffers one of the biggest declines in performance when pressured vs. when clean. But that decline is from a literally best-in-the-league place. I think over time he’s been pretty average when pressured.
Yes, to me the takeaway is: keep him clean. Invest in keeping him clean. Because if you do you have arguably the league’s best passer (not to be confused w/the league’s best QB).
It’s a good point. Also, part of the game plan is just to toss it away when the play breaks down. A ball tossed at the receivers feet or out of bounds counts as an incompletion under pressure
Goff isn’t the kind of QB to run around for five seconds and chuck ir backyard football style
Thanks for intro-ing me to Football Insights, @TNutZz.
Goff 2nd-most “highly accurate” when throwing to his first read (just behind Hebert); 8th-most “highly accurate” throwing to his 2nd read. Interesting that a few guys, like Hurts and Murray, are MUCH more accurate to their 2nd reads than to their first.
That’s why I don’t mind spending a 1st round pick on an O-lineman if the right one is available. Keeping Goff clean and having a good running game = continued winning.
