Looks like the Weatherspoon deal has made a Gonzales extension too expensive for the Pats blood. Asking price will be high, but the talent is undeniable and would make everyone forget TA.
Holmes would never make a huge trade.
This is simply not feasible or smart for him to make this trade. Not only will his contract be massive, he’d have to give up huge draft capital…no thanks.

Right. Why should we trade for possibly the best CB in the sport in the middle of his prime? That makes absolutely no sense for this team!!
Looks like @jane_doe was right!
If you are Holmes, you have to make a call. Finances can be figured out. However, this is one of the extremely few guys I’d be willing to part with multiple first round picks, including the ultra valuable 2027 pick.
No matter what he would never make a trade for a superstar. I just hoping when the window is shut us lions fans fingers aren’t underneath it. Now im not saying it is at all, but I can see it happening sooner then later
Who was the last team to win a Super Bowl without a legit CB1?
SEA: Witherspoon
PHI: Quinyon Mitchell
KC: McDuffie
KC: Sneed
LA: Jalen Ramsey
Seems to be a trend.
Gonzalez went one pick before Jack Campbell.
Ooh dang. That was a zinger.
My difficulty stems from our insecurity in our safeties. If our two were healthy, or maybe even one, we wouldn’t need this trade.
Not sure how cap works on this, but if either retired or were released because of this, would we have the money to go after a player like Gonzalez? Between the loss of 1st rounders and maybe savings if we lost a safety, I would think this would be doable?
We should have the money if we do the following:
- Use Eagles method of deferring payments
- Don’t pay our achillies-tear safety and our spinal-fusion always-injured TE market setting money
I wanted him so bad at #12. I was so pissed when we drafted Gibbs. I thought it was one of the dumbest picks in history.
That’s the draft where I learned to have a little trust in Holmes. He isn’t perfect but he’s pretty damn good.
You do know that it wasnt a spinal fusion surgery right?
Regardless i am not sure either gets market setting money without showing out significantly this season while staying healthy.
Draft class was pretty loaded with talent.
Lions need to get over the hump. Do I think their going to suck hell no. Do I think they will miss the playoffs hell no. Do I think their SB contenders hell yes. But im very concerned with the DBs.
Only mistake holmes did that draft was hooker and not drafting Byron young. Him and Hutchinson would’ve been fun to watch
There are two kinds of teams in the NFL: Teams that are always looking to add more talent/depth at corner and teams that are too stupid to realize they need more talent/depth at corner.
Gonzales will likely cost a lot more than Brad is willing to trade but the Lions at least need to ask about him. What a massive upgrade he would be for a team that should be thinking Super Bowl or bust right now.
hey they had the funds setting there to make Gibbs the highest paid RB in history, why don’t they have the cash to nab this guy?
Do it. Trade for him. Tired of this team having no CB’s. A good CB makes a massive difference. It transforms a defense. With Hutch, Jack, and assuming McNeil is back on track this defense would instantly be elite. I assume it will take two 1st rounders like it took for Sauce.
Weren’t you like 12 years old? I swear, by the time you are 30, you are going to have sciatica and be yelling at kids on your lawn if you keep up this pace.
