My super secret inside sources tell me that Gonzales isn’t on our radar because of price and weakness in run support. He’s too much like Deion Sanders and we can’t have that.

I don’t think we’ll be into him for the same reason I didn’t think we were into him as a prospect, he doesn’t attack/tackle like we want our DBs to attack/tackle. It’s pretty frustrating to pass on elite cover guys because of it, but it is what it is.
I disagree vehemently with this. You don’t come from the Rams and simply refuse to trade for superstars. We are just very, very picky. The type of superstar we would want has to check more boxes than they would for other teams. For instance, I mentioned above why I don’t think we’ll trade for Gonzalez.

He hasn’t, because he’s very, very picky. But that doesn’t mean he won’t. He’s been here a while, but the amount of super stars available for trade over that time is still a relatively small sample size.

Gonzalez is obviously a really good player who would make a lot of contenders even better. Having said that, the financial gymnastics to make this happen would be substantial, and you’ve basically just thrown all of your eggs into one basket for a DB. A good DB, but a DB. You better hope everything else goes perfectly (and it never does), because zero spending flexibility going forward.
People hate on me when I say this, but a dynamic pass rush can take a below average DB, and make him look pretty darn good. Ask me how I know. I like that we seem to have a little more sauce in the pass rush this year … maybe it will pay off for our current DB’s.
Don’t forget there are also guys we likely want to trade for and it doesn’t work out. I heard multiple times over the years that we approached Cleveland for Garrett, but when they finally decided to move on, they wanted an elite, young edge on a rookie deal as part of the package in return. Well, we didn’t have one of those, so what are we supposed to do? Hire a PI to take pictures of the GM sleeping around and blackmail him?
Sometimes you can be willing to do a deal and it doesn’t matter.

I am usually not banging the drum for all the high profile trades that our fanbase wants over the various teams we follow (Lions, Tigers, Pistons, Red Wings, etc.) but I think it is time for one, and not just to make the team better.
Right now, the media is basically ignoring the Lions. Some of you may think that is a good thing, but I feel that a little momentum is needed to remind everybody that this is our time at the top and last year was a glitch, not a feature. A trade for Gonzalez would do that and it wouldn’t cost as much (picks wise or financially) as Green Bay had to pay for their gimped-up pass rusher last year.
Make this trade and beat New Orleans and Buffalo, and then every story the next morning will be about Detroit.

And how has that worked out. Yes they’ve been good in the pre season vs back ups. Can they live up to that who knows. Good oline will out play a good dline.

Talking about the past. We can get happy about the pre season games because the dline looks good, but it really means nothing right now.
Cant afford them.
Lions basically have $0 in cap room for this year. Basically little to none next year, unless they do major restructuring on some players.
But if im freeing up that much cap space and trading that much capital. Id rather get a top tier DL rather than a CB.

Would i trade for Gonzales? Probably if i could work out the compensation and $. Will Brad, who knows.
We can all be upset about the moves he hasnt made but outside of Garrett who has been traded that we should have been in on?
Parsons? Good player, hurt, didnt lead to a SB yet and required a large amount of cash to acquire. Also would be a deviation from what we have historically wanted our DEs to be.
Sauce? Maybe but he also has seemed to have taken a step back from his first year performance, are other teams just avoiding him? Also colts like the packers with parsons havent won anything that matters with him.
Crosby was and wasnt available, who knows.

Sometimes its the right decision to mot make the trade regardless of how we feel in the moment. Is this one of those times? Idk, like i said i would certainly be making a call here but lets not act like making a trade is a guarantee to get you where you want to go or that the absence of a trade is guaranteed to prevent you.
If he made the other trades you wanted this offseason, like Myles Garrett, would CB still be the biggest weakness with even less resources to address it?
