Maybe they really like what they have in sorsdal? Hard decisions are having to be made. I’d rather lose Jackson and keep Sewell, st brown and others we have coming up for extension.
So you just commit him to doubling Jonah’s guy. Dotson even at his best is just fine at pass protection. He had been very bad at it with the Steelers. To me it’s odd roster construction.
Small sample size but Dotson was our best olinemen. The run game and offense really started clicking when he was inserted as a starter. The Rams ended the year as good as sny team on offense in my opinion.
I’m aware of how well he played last year. And he was solid in pass pro. But with that being said it was the run game in which he was awesome. I’m pretty surprised that Jonah got more money than him tbh.
Won’t lie dont love the Jonah signing. I’ve been going back and forth with Rams fans over the matter. They think because he played on Detriots oline and got paid big that he’s this elite player or big difference maker. Having watch every Lions game I know that’s not the case. I preferred keeping Avila at LG and upgrading center or keeping Shelton/and draft one. All for a much lower cost. Dont think Jonahs play commands that kind of cap hit. Nevermind the recent health struggles.
I think we’ll do fine. Tomlinson, Glasgow and Jackson all got paid by other teams after their rookie contracts expired. We should have no problem developing a guard.
He is IMO a legitimately good player but I do agree the price was steep. But this Guard market is just insane all the way around. Carolina spent 153m on Hunt and Lewis. Wild!
I think they’re going to continue what they did last season. A heavy run game to protect Stafford. Jonah can hold his own in pass pro. Especially if he doesn’t have to do it 40 times a game. It makes sense to me as a move to try and maximize the last part of Matt’s career. The bonus is that it doesn’t have to work. It’s not my team.
I pointed out during the season that it would be difficult for the Lions to pay Goff and JJ. They could have kept him but I’m not surprised we chose to move on here.
I was in favor of the Lions drafting an OG last draft for this reason. I’d liked to have had a year to develop a replacement.
Goff’s success relies heavily on a good clean pocket. I hope the Lions are able to find a quality replacement.
Personally I think we need two interior OL now. A starter and solid swing player.
I like him as a developmental player but he had plenty of struggles when forced to start and Goff was less effective when he was in.
I do not think he’s ready to start and in my opinion he should be competing for a depth spot not a starting spot.
He may develop into a future starter but I see a guy who’s at least a year away from that. He definitely has upside and potential. He’s everything you want from a small school player but they take time to develop and he needs more time.
