Vikings QB Kirk Cousins ranked the 12th-best quarterback in the NFL (yahoo.com)
I think Cousins is a tad under rated but 12th is in the ball park.
There’s several QB’s in that 7-15 range you could flip flop depending on your criteria.
I think Ryan, Big Ben, Carr, Cousins, Tannehill, Goff, Herbert, Murray, Mayfield, Burrows etc are closer than people care to admit.
Personally I think
Brady
Watson
Wilson
Rogers
Mahomes
Allen
Stafford
Prescott
Are all better than him for sure. After that it’s gets a little debatable.
We have aging vets like Big Ben, Ryan, Brady and Rogers that are all declining. Or at least showing signs of age. Who could decline this year.
Then we have youngsters like Murray, Mayfield, Burrows, Herbert, Lawrence, etc who could establish themselves as better with a good season.
12th seems in the ball park to me.
Why do people think cousins sucks? Is it cause he didn’t wear blue? Dudes numbers are pretty good.
I don’t think he sucks. I think he’s a tad underrated.
He falls in that tier two of starting QB’s in my book and you have 7-10 guys in that group. Depending on the year he maybe at the top or bottom of that group.
I agree. Kirk is one of those guys that’s better than the perception of him is.
A big knock on him is not being able to win the big one.
He had a poor record in big games against high winning percentage teams and in primetime games.
He feasts on teams with poor defenses.
I would say that Goff and Cousins are pretty comparable pocket passers. Goff can do a few more things with his feet. Cousins a bit more experienced. Overall as I’ve seen Goff is the kind of guy that rises in big games and Cousins doesn’t, +youth, I’d rather have Goff for the next 2-5 years hands down.
I think he’s better than a 12th . Stafford was 11th ranked for a long time…I always viewed Matt as 10th…
now he’s in LA, he’s all of a sudden a 6th?
Yet how many big games has Stafford won?
Yes this is true.
I think part of the reason is that his own WR publicly took a jab at him after he had a few poor games.
He also got some negative press about having tons of passes batted down at the line a few years ago.
Another thing that is interesting to me… is that Goff has been dropped in a bunch of rankings with turnovers being the main concern.
2020 - Goff threw 13 INTs and lost 4 fumbles.
2020 - Cousins threw 13 INTs, lost 5 fumbles (26 fewer passing attempts).
Cousins has thrown 10 or more INTs in 5 of his 6 full seasons as a starter… and fumbled the ball 9+ times in each of those 6 years as well.
Cousins threw less than 10 picks only in 2019, when he had only 444 passing attempts and Vikings ranked 30th in passing attempts and 6th in rushing offense. Goff threw it 626 times that year.
I think the negative element of the Cousins narrative is derived from his salary and the following:
Kirk Cousins vs. winning teams (Hmmm. This stat sounds vaguely familiar…)
Cousins is 8-34 as a starter against teams with a winning record in his NFL career. That includes a 4-11 record against winning teams since coming to the Vikings in 2018.
Kirk Cousins on 'Monday Night Football’
Cousins is 1-9 on MNF. He had an 0-6 record with Washington, and that losing trend continued with Minnesota until a 19-13 win over the Bears on Nov. 16, 2020.
Kirk Cousins in the playoffs
Cousins is 1-2 in the playoffs as a starter, and that includes a 1-1 record with the Vikings. He picked up his first playoff victory against the New Orleans Saints in the NFC wild card round last season.
Me too. Not even close for me. Not to mention Goff has accomplished more than Cousins in the NFL in a shorter time.
Goff is better looking than Cousins as well.
Purple sucks. Feel for Vikes fans.
…on 2nd thought - screw Vikings fans. LOL
Yet has more wins then Stafford with less years.
wow, that sounds extremely familiar, the hard truth is Stafford and Cousins have had very similar careers to date so far. Both are solid QB’s in the pocket, but they aren’t anything special and can’t make anything happen outside the pocket. Both require a dominant supporting cast to have a winning team.
The elite QB’s are dual threat in the modern nfl, with the exception of Brady who isn’t even human
Are you saying that Cousins currently has more NFL game wins than Stafford currently has?
I think he’s saying playoff wins. Cousins 1 - Stafford 0
I got a Stafford Jersey on my wall, love and respect the dude, but it’s a results based game and wins are the only stat that matters to me for QB’s
Check out the similarity of the 2018 Rams rushing yards to the 2020 Vikings numbers.
I haven’t seen many articles about how Cousins had good stats in 2020 strictly because he had a top RB.
The 2018 Rams ran for 2231 yards and 4.9 ypc with Gurley gaining 1251 yards in 14 games.
The 2020 Vikings ran for 2283 yards and 4.9 ypc with Dalvin Cook rushing for 1557 yards… in 14 games.
Playoffs my bad.
I think it’s bc he sings a capella. He’s basically Joey Harrington but actually good at football.
