The guy who makes me a bit nervous is Ekeler in the passing game. Thank goodness Anzalone is back. Imagine Ekeler being covered by some of practice squad linebackers we have rolled out there. Especially on 3rd downs.
I think you gotta mix up where the pressure is coming from send Iffy on one send Anzalone on one send branch send Campbell. Show him different looks get him thinking where its coming from. Also you gotta hit him(no not late) but you gotta get some licks on him.
It is a concern but glad we have Anzalone back to help. I do wonder if we don’t blitz him like Darnold. Perhaps I am crazy also but the spread for a playoff game being 8.5 seems nuts to me. I just don’t expect to see those type of point differences going forward. Though hope I am wrong and we can beat everyone by 20 so my heart doesn’t give out on me.
True RPO’s happen quick.
If there is an illegal man downfield it is the QB’s fault.
The QB reads the LB and either let’s the RB keep the ball if LB stays back or pulls the ball and throws a quick seam or slant if the LB attacks downhill.
The O-Line always runs blocks on the play because even if it is a pass the ball comes out before the line can get downfield.
There is not one way to defend Daniels as the objective will be to keep him confused and guessing.
Even though AG is not a fan of a permanent spy it will be used to some degree.
There was some use of a spy against Allen.
AG will still play mostly M2M because that is who he and this Lion defense is at heart.
But there will be a lot of mixed M2M coverages with man on the outside and TE with zone muddying up the middle of the field and help over the top of McLaurin.
A lot more zone in the Red Zone. as you mentioned to keep more eyes on Daniels.
Blitzing may be less this week than against the Vikings because of the mobility of Daniels.
The plan is to keep Daniels in the pocket.
Bowles is one of the heavier blitzers in the league and he had to stop because blitzing was forcing Daniels from the pocket which they didn’t want to do.
Yea I agree, but sometimes the receiver isn’t open… So qb hesitates. I swear on 1 play yesterday the guard was 10 yards downfield, poor guy had no idea the qb was throwing the ball.
Yea,
I saw the play.
QB’s fault.
Bad read. He should have let back keep the ball or pulled it and ran himself.
He can’t hold the ball and throw it late.
And if he’s gonna scramble, try to force him left, he wants to scramble to the right from what I’ve seen of him. Only a couple games I’ve watched but clear pattern of if pressure scramble to the right and look to throw first, then run.
Like making a point guard dribble and shoot with his non dominant arm in basketball.
I’ll say it: Washington has an incredible offense. Daniels is for real, right now. He’s already better than Hurts and pretty much everyone else not named Burrow, Mahomies, Allen, Jackson. Robinson and McLaurin are excellent as well.
Their offense is going to put up yards against us … regardless of how Glenn decides to defend Daniels.
It’s going to come down to red zone, and getting a couple of turnovers.
I am 100% expecting a Stroud like performance in that the second round will be his demise. And I have watched Washington more than a few times. I do not see how even if they play their A game this is that close. Washington has relied on massive amount of timely luck and that was against the 4th place cross over schedule.
How do you beat him? Keep him in the pocket and make him read the defense. Most of his big plays are outside of the pocket or him scrambling. One of the benefits of not having a great pass rush is that the Lions do a decent job of keeping QBs in the pocket.
I am not even concerned about this game. The Lions will win. The only question is by how much? But you are banking on a rookie QB overcoming the fact that the Lions are better in all 3 phases. Not a chance. And who besides McLaurin would play for the Lions as far a offensive skill positions? And he would be what the 2 or 3? Honestly, I feel like many of us are way over thinking this game.
The Lions will be able to call their shots while on offense. And the defense will get stops. I would not be shocked if the Lions score in the 40s. So even if Washington has a solid game and score in the 20s they still lose by 3 TDs.
The only chance Washington has is if the Lions play a B- or below level game for them. And I just do not see that as a real possibility.
Start the game with a back up knocking jaden out of the game and get ejected ,but need bit acting too, but we dont want our QB to be knocked out after that
I expect the Lions to win, but as a coach, I can never be this confident.
This is not the NBA where you have to beat a team 4 times.
It is one game and there are so many variables.
Daniels is a special player that is capable of taking over a game.
You are counting on Daniels to take a step backward.
As a coach I expect the opposing team and their best player to continue to improve and play better than they have all season.
There are also injuries, turnovers, bad officials calls, or just a key player having a really bad day.
Daniels and the Commanders beat the Eagles just a few weeks ago.
Hurts was taken out of that game but Daniels still put up 36 points on an Eagle defense that is much better than the Lions.
Daniels went into Tampa and ended the Bucs season.
Washington knows that they won’t be able to beat the Lions straight up.
As much as Dan and AG push back, The Lions have had difficulty with running QB’s.
Commanders only hope is to leverage the special skills of Daniels and have a game like Lamar had against the Lions.
Again, I think the Lions will win.
But don’t take Washington, and specifically Daniels, lightly.
I think he’s really good too, and as a coach you would never take anyone lightly…our coach is a VERY good one, so for this reason, I think new squash the fuuuck out of 'em.
Again who on that offense takes minutes away from the Lions starters?
At some point the Jimmys and Joes matter. And let’s say that coaching is neutral (yeah sure let’s go with that). The Lions margin for error is 2-3 times that of Washington.
Of course you take every game seriously. And of course this is the quarter finals and no one got here on accident. But the Lions are not the 1 seed by accident or because they got lucky or played a crap schedule. Let’s remember that.
Listen next week against the Eagles I will not be nearly as confident. But this week the Lions come out on top and it could be a big number
