How, If Any, Has Your Opinion Changed About Our Coordinators Over the Past Few Weeks?

Petzing has definitely made some nice adjustments after halftimes. He’s also shown the ability to be very creative. I am completely impressed with the 2 TE set in the backfield against the Vikings. Seemed to completely flip that game. Defensively it doesn’t seem like WRs are running so wide open like they were in the first month of the season. Definitely getting BB back helps but even the corners seem much more in tuned to their assignments. Really looking forward to the remainder of the season and hopefully getting Kirby and Branch back at full strength - would be an unbelievable lift.

They haven’t changed. But I am the resident FO PR man.

On defense, what my lame ass opnion is, is going from thinking how to run a new scheme (individual and as a whole) in the game to now reacting more and being comfortable and trusting with your teammates as well…

Petzing has been pretty solid all season IMO. Then again he took over a top 5 offense. It should be really good. We have unreal talent on offense. Several players headed to the hall of fame. Any half decent OC should be able to have success.

Shep went from embarrassing level defense after 4 games to solid the past 3 games. The communication issues and breakdowns in coverage have dropped way down. So has the quality of QB’s we have faced though. Clearly we needed to play more man coverage as we have been recently. Which is great. But now half the defense is injured as always so Shep’s really gonna be tested.

Fipp is probably top 5 special teams coordinator in the nfl. We are lucky to have him this long.

I had Shep’s bags packed after the Carolina game and while I’m not a fully believer I do think he’s competent now.

Playing man, Bracketing the #1 receiver and sometimes the #2 as well on passing downs is what we should have been doing all year.

Not sure if we lose to Carolina with that game plan

Definitely forgot about Fipp. He’s a mini legend. Some of my thoughts about Petzing may be due to my wife, who wants to fire him every time a play doesn’t go for an 80 yard touchdown. :joy:

Haha fair enough and in her defense the expectations for this offense should be through the roof. I honestly think we have the best skill players in the nfl, a very good QB and a solid oline. What more could an OC ask for?

Fipp - no change for me he is very good, but I would like to see a blocked punt

Petz - Ben who??? Seriously he is better than Ben was his first 8 games hands down. Everyone remembers peak Ben but he did not start out that good. Very impressed with Petz. Additionally, I am now not as impressed with Ben if I am honest. Petz discussed how Hank really helps with the run game creativity. So now one has to ask how much did Ben learn from Hank and crew that he just acted like it was all him??? Not to mention I am a HUGE David Shaw fan. Dude even looks like a genius. The Offensive Coaching Team pretty elite and impressive.

Shep - I will say I have gone from why is he not fired to maybe we have something here. I have decided to let him cook and see where they are at come seasons end. And I will also comment that while Petz is surrounded by ELITE coaches I am not sure the same can be said for Shep.

Very good points. I award you a gold star and a Bignatty reach around.

My feelings about his forehead are unchanged.

Petz says he’s here to serve man and make plays from his playbook. But let me let you in on a little secret.

Their early personnel packages were extremely telling. Jah wasn’t blocking for crap and Vaki was being brought in exclusively to block.

I think the difference with Petzig is palpable. Although some of it might just be we have a decent OLine again. At any rate, there does seem to be some attention to detail that was lacking last year.

Pretty much the same on KS. I feel like if your calling card is offense, you at least need a coordinator who can be a superior schemer and just get your defense to average. Not convinced we have that here.

Petzing is hitting his stride
Always thought it would take him several games to get into sync and a groove calling the offense
Shep I am still not totally sold on but I do see growth, all you can ask for given we know he is not going anywhere
I just hated the idea of learning on the job

I think Shep had lost his compass early on. I really think he almost lost his room. I think Dan or/and one of the more experienced coaches helped straighten him out. Hutch calling a players only meeting as well. But it seams that Shep is doing much better since Carolina.

Petz is starting to hit his stride it seams. Getting to know his players and their capabilities, along with the offense gaining cohesiveness.

No need to mention special teams, we have a gem there.

It was an obvious overcorrection to what we did in 2025 and its why I stand by saying people who blamed the personel didn’t understand what they were watching.

We ramped up the man coverage post Carolina and every single team we’ve played since has not hit their season average point total. Yes some of the teams are limited offensively but we haven’t allowed them to score their low average point totals since Carolina.

In that Minnesota game they did what I was screaming for them to do the 1st 4 weeks and flat out double the #1 and #2 wide receivers and make someone else beat you.

It’s interesting that the worst game the statistically best wide receiver duo in the NFC has played this year was against the Detroit Lions with the same corners that were on a historically bad pace the 1st 4 weeks

The same.wide receivers both went nuclear against the team Joey Porter Jr played on ironically enough
