How much do we have to spend in UFA?

2020 it was about 100% of the cap. Keep in mind, my numbers are top 53 contracts at the beginning of the year. i.e. for 2023, my numbers would include Williams (Suspended) and Hooker (PUP) in top 53 of 2023, but not a the bottom two contracts (Green and Gilmore).

The chart I compiled below is from data off OTC’s website at the dates listed. His numbers include not only the 53 man active roster (what I’m trying to replicate above), but also PS, IR/PUP/SUSP players as well. He also does something that I wish he wouldn’t do. He values traded players at their original contract. i.e. He has Goff valued at $33.5M APY (the APY of the contract when Goff signed the extension). I value Goff’s contract at $26M (what the Lions will pay him over his 4years), but Jason is consistent, he does that for all traded contracts.

We really have no way of knowing until we have our Lions FA’s re-signed/extended.

Also we have to remember that the league has been taking in an unprecedented level of revenue from all the new tv/streaming deals and international marketing.

My point is $30mil annual salary cap increases are likely to become the norm.

Therefore i want to extend all of our stud draft pick as soon as the option is available. We do take on some risk due to injury, but we also save a ton by extending players a year (or 2) early.

Going to a 17 game schedule has also added to the huge jump in revenue, and if they do go to an 18 game schedule, it will jump again.

I literally expect the salary cap to double during Hutchesons career.

We will end the day with the same amount that we started with

I saw PDQ Bach in person in Detroit, around 74-75. Eclectic, extremely talented, inventive, virtuoso, one-of-a-kind, funny, very entertaining. I’ve got one of his albums on vinyl, somewhere. Good way to round out a Collection, if you appreciate Classical. - GOALPOST :musical_score: :musical_keyboard:

I couldnt figure out how to describe him, you did perfectly

Signed Glasgow $20M/3yr $9.5M Guaranteed
Signed Davenport $6.5M/1yr
Traded for Carlton Davis $14M/1yr (I really expect an extension announced soon)

Updated cap space, when budgeting for extensions for Goff, ARSB and Alim, rookies, practice squad and in-season moves. I have us with $11M in cap space and $205M in APY . . . so another $25M APY to add this season.

This probably puts us out of Danielle Hunter territory

And that’s just to get us to the same budget as the prior 3 years, at some point the budget should be expanded. Is it this year?

Signed Skipper - Vet min
Signed Amik Robertson $4.25M

I have $9.6M in cap space when budgeting for draft, PS, In-season, etc and we are at $208M in APY for the year, Another $22M in APY for the year (that’s APY above the vet min around $1M) . . . we can get some decent players yet.

Re-signed Glasgow $20M/3yr
Signed Davenport $6.5M/1yr
Traded for Carlton Davis $14M/1yr
Signed Amik Robertson $9.25M/2yr
Re-signed Skipper - Vet min
Signed DJ Reader - $27.25M/2yr
Re-signed Dorsey - Vet min
Re-signed Daly - Vet min

Current cap space = $15M, when budgeting for draft picks = $13, when budgeting for draft picks, practice squad and in-season moves = $1M. Current APY for the year (including draft picks) = $219M and based on prior 3yrs, I thought we’d get to about $230M, but they could be holding some back for the upcoming extensions.

Im surprised at no extensions so far

Maybe it’s years? Holmes really hasnt done anything longer than 3, and i would think Sun god wants 4 to 5 years maybe?

I’m also surprised there haven’t been any extension.

Players want shorter years, teams want longer contracts. ARSB does a 3yr extension now, He’ll be 28 when the contract expires, huge pay day when he’s 28.

ahh okay, that makes sense

im really wondering whats the hold up right now then, we know Brad usually sets a price and plays hardball, but i think when it comes to the core, you can be a lil more forgiving in terms of pricing and years though
