How would you feel about Trevor Lawrence as a Lion?

Hear me out on this. Let’s say that with a plethora of cap cash, a fantastic free agent market with little competition, that the Jaguars decide the future is now, and want to trade for Stafford.

I’ll admit, I haven’t studied Lawrence much because I figured there was no chance, but simply for the sake of conversation, what would he bring to the table? Does he fit? Would he be a good investment?

The Jags have literally spent the last 2 years purging all of their talent to start over. Why in the world would they decide the future is now?

That would have to be one of the worst approaches to building a franchise that I’ve ever seen.

It’s just a hypothetical. I fully understand the premise is unlikely. I’m just saying, what if?

Let’s say the Jags are so confident in their free agent haul, and they have a front office and head coach that want a veteran QB, that the Lions pull a blockbuster and have the #1 pick.

Just go with the premise. We have #1. What do you like, dislike, about Lawrence as a Lion?

I like the fact that we just landed Lawrence. I feel bad for him in a general sense, but his family will love having him around for January vacation time.

Giddy ia probably the best word. This is why i was hoping Stafford, Golladay, Ragnow, Flowers, Decker, Swift, Okudah, Collins and Walker were going to opt out due to Covid.

to replace Stafford? or to be groomed by Stafford?

He’s already got great hair, I don’t think he needs Stafford help.

Maybe that’s not the hair he’s talking about.

The only way I could see even a remote, and still highly unrealistic, possibility is if the Jags were trading for Stafford. In that case it would be full replacement, not grooming.

Why would the Jags do this?
The NFL doesn’t run on charity. Teams just don’t trade slam dunk prospects for the hell of it.

This guy is going to start from day 1, sell tickets, be a top 10 QB immediately, eventually win Super Bowls, and be a celebrity.

He has a long way to go to be a quality NFL QB

I think the compensation would be too much. Just look at the last trade for #1 overall. The Rams gave up two 1sts, two 2nds, two 3rds for Jared Goff. But then again they did make it to the Superbowl in 2018, but not because of that trade.

No way in hell the Jags would trade for Stafford but I’ll play.

I’m a Stafford fan and I’d give Stafford and our next three 1st rounders for Lawrence. I honestly believe Lawrence is the best QB to come out since Luck. He’s special and the type of QB a team could build around for the next 15 years.

Trading up and drafting Lawrence would mean we’re completely tearing down and would be on a 5 year plan to build us back up.

But let me make this clear. There’s absolutely no way that Jax won’t be drafting Lawrence. Baring he doesn’t do something incredibly stupid between now and draft day.

I watch most Clemson games, they are my third favorite team behind Rutgers and Baylor. I’d take Lawrence over all of the #1OA in the past decade - Ryan, Stafford, Newton, Luck, Mayfield, Burrow etc. etc. He is big, mobile, fast, smart, big arm, I don’t really see a weakness.

I’d feel great.

I’d feel like the Lions would possibly have a truly elite QB that would change the face of the franchise. I think adding him would lead to more players and coaches wanting to come to Detroit. I think adding him changes the Lions from a laughing stock to a team with a guy that might be good enough to change things for the better.

Of course, odds are against that and it’s an uphill battle, but I think those things are possible when you land a truly elite QB. Will Lawrence be one? We’ll need to wait to find out and be sure. It’s possible he won’t be…but I think he will.

He’s the only QB in this draft I’d rather have than Stafford.

There’s no way the Lions can get Lawrence though so…while it’s fun to dream about winning the lotto, the reality is we didn’t and won’t.

Stafford for Laurence straight up isn’t a good trade for the Lions. Unless Laurence improves quite a bit he is not going to do anything special. Luck was nowhere near the player or talent that Stafford is. Fans who chase hype are followers without any understanding of what they are watching.

Boy this guy sounds he believes in mother goose. Lol

Don’t know why you want Lawrence the guy didn’t play well when when being rushed all day, and couldn’t win the meaning full game. He sure couldn’t carry his team to victory all on his own.

Stafford’s a good QB, but you need to put down the crack pipe. Laurence is 10 years younger and a very good prospect.

I’m into don’t draft a QB “right now” stance, I feel very strongly about that especially since we 10 different pieces to address. I think it would be “better” for a new QB to come here when we are more complete as a team, rather than a time where we are about half a team. I’ll tell you that I could see drafting 5 players only for the defense easily, three of which being LB’s , a DE , a S

On offense? I can make a case for: RB , WR’s (2) , OT . to name a few. I think we are too broken and have very few picks to take a QB ATM…but I don’t make that call.

I agree with that strategy if we pick at 7.
However, the OP said what if you could get Lawrence. So, in an alternate world, would you draft Lawrence at 1OA. Thats a no-brainer.
