Who? This is one of the issues I have, he actually didn’t play many OL who are gonna be in the pros. He missed playing against Zavala, McFadden, Zion Johnson, Carmen, Darnell Wright. I think he beat Asim Richards for one sack, but he’s a late-rounder at best.
Is AA projected to play DT or DE? If he’s projected inside and can be that 3-tech we’ve been looking for, then yeah I’m on board…if not then I’m just on bored.
I project him strictly as a 3T based upon his work at the Senior Bowl. You’d like to have more evidence that he can handle it, but at least you’ve got some proof of concept. And he did more than handle it, he crushed it against some of the best prospects the class has to offer.
Yes of course…. Sorry I meant capers.
I was thinking about watching the game tape against Tennesse. Wright on that line is borderline first round, may get in there. Didn’t realize he didn’t play against him. But the other guys he did go against on that line may find some rosters in the future. He didn’t look outclassed. He was making a difference against them and it wasn’t just the sack. It was when he did get stood up and how he still succeeded in using his hands and lateral movement, to disengage and flow back to the play.
It’s all good. But he doesn’t make it to the 2nd round or I’ll eat crow.
I always use the Tennessee game as a checkmark in the pros column but the guys he went up against probably won’t be in the league. It’s just generally SEC linemen are better than ACC linemen. Wright was playing but he was outside and the only time they met was on a stunt when Wright stuffed him.
I figured he would have played one of the NFL level ACC guards but he just didn’t, it was really surprising. I’m sure I’m missing someone, but I pretty much went through and looked game by game. It’s bizarre that they haven’t played NC State since 2020. Zavala wasn’t even there then and the guy the undersized center who came out a couple of years ago was hurt. There’s just not a lot of tape of him against guys who will be in the league, so there’s another projection.
I really wish he could have gone to the Senior Bowl or one of the other all star games.
Pitt has a very different scheme they use with their defensive front. They shoot gaps, run stunts. loops, all sorts of games. I imagine this is very confusing for college lineman and I think Pitt had like 48 sacks and it certainly was not a one man show. Kancey is very good at running the stunts but the DE Baldanado was just as effective. He leaves Pitt with over 20 career sacks. I hope some team that needs a pass rush specialist takes Kancey off the board early. I would be very disappointed if the Lions took him in the first 2 rounds.
Name 1. I am waiting. Also he is a free lance artist from what i hear. Like said before Dan hates free lance artists. Do your job.
Spraggins from that Tennessee game that was just mentioned. He is 6’3 330 with a huge wingspan. He is projected to be one of the first guards drafted in next years draft.
So there’s one. Pretty easy to find. Calling him a free lance artist and not doing his job for running stunts is funny, its part of their scheme, he is doing his job.
Whether he goes round 1 or round 2 doesnt matter to me at all. If he succeeds or not is what matters to me. I dont think he will be worth a round 1 or 2 pick when we look back in 3 years… any gm who picks him should have their career tied to his success. That is what should happen when you take outliers high. These are multi million dollar bets
Thank you. I will go look for tape of Spraggins lined up in front of Kancey. We should expect Kancey to dominate against him if he is worth a 1st right?
Sure, he had a hell of a game.
I haven’t watched a ton of his tape yet since he’s not in this class and certainly things can change in a year, but I don’t see him projected that highly anywhere. He’s not listed at all most places and where I do see him it’s as a late round/UDFA. I’ve given him a cursory watch as I watched other guys on Tennessee or playing against him, and I think it’s possible he might make it into the draft, but I’m not seeing a high-level prospect at all.
@coyote12 Could take your boy Keion White and move him to DT
I saw a video that mentioned him as one of the top guards in next year’s draft and pro football network had an article about him being a big a riser on the draft board.
The question was wether he faced any future nfl linemen and he sounded like one. He’s probably faced better.
Keep him at DE 1st-2nd down. Rush from inside on 3rd downs
Thanks for the detail on that. I can’t unsee what I see man. What he does, translates. He doesn’t win every rep. But even against big guys you see the knockback again and again. Those arms and 280 is not stopping him from making that C/G move backwards, upsetting the pocket. That is just the strength part of his game. You can’t put him at NT in a 3-4 right. But I put him HERE and think about what we could do with him. He disengages so quickly and doesn’t quit. If he realizes he isn’t getting by a guy or driving him back in a good leverage position, he quickly processes that and just does something else. Anyway he’ll go in the first or I’ll eat crow. What he does on the regular now, he’ll do in the league, IF teams use him right. We could and that’s before doing anything else on the D line. TBD, but that’s my flag in the ground brother!
Yeah fair enough, we all have to come to our own conclusions and you could very easily be right. It’s easy to see stuff to like on his tape, he’s one of the most fun players to study. And if he’s used correctly, I think you’re right that he’ll probably be successful.
It comes down to how you value that success. For me, if he’s a part-time player it negatively effects his grade… but the one thing he really does well is so impactful it keeps his grade from dropping too far (as opposed to say a run-stuffing NT). I have him #33 overall on my board so basically a late 1st/early 2nd, which is about where I expect him to go.
The ceiling case for him is tantalizing. I don’t think it’s possible to reach Aaron Donald heights (I mean he’s basically the best defensive player since LT so there’s no shame in that), but if he can overcome some of the issues that make him an outlier and succeed on 3 downs, you could be talking about a long time all-pro.
But the floor case is fairly alarming as well. What if he can’t disengage against professional iOL? What if he can’t do something else, no matter how quickly he processes? What if by then he’s already beat? What if he can’t move NFL iOL backwards at anywhere close to the same clip? His closest comp, Ed Oliver, really hasn’t, and he had some stellar college tape as well. It’s just a lot to overcome.
I’m splitting the difference which is probably something of a cop-out. I wouldn’t be surprised if someone loved him and took him much higher, or I wouldn’t be surprised if the league is in agreement about his potential downside and he slips like Nakobe Dean did. Basically nothing would surprise me.
The step up in oline play he will face in the pros will be massive for him. Massive. Every single player he will face will be 10x better than the best player he has ever faced in his life.
You hang your reputation and job on your draft picks.
Ed was the better prospect by far… kancey is more limited than ed
If levi back is fixed then this need is filled already. I see a flexible mid round guy being added more so than a top 2 rd guy. Just in cast levi injury is career ending.
