Is Aaron Rodgers one of the most unlikable people ever?

What is it about former GB quarterbacks? Goes on McAfee and speaks out against all those people that dare criticize him:

“There’s a lot of people talking about the game now,” Rodgers said. “Both non-former players and former players who are trying to stay relevant fame wise. So the takes and the criticism are a lot different than they were maybe in the mid-2000s.

I’m talking about these experts on TV who nobody remembers what they did in their career,” Rodgers ranted. “So in order for them to stay relevant, they have to make comments that keep them in the conversation. That wasn’t going on in 2008, 2009. The SportsCenter of my youth, those guys made highlights so much fun. And that’s what they showed on SportsCenter . Now it’s all talk shows and people whose opinions are so important now and they believe they’re the celebrities now, they’re the stars for just being able to talk about sports or give a take about sports, many of which are unfounded or asinine, as we all know. But that’s the environment we’re in now.”

Apparently if you weren’t as good as he was, let alone played the game, you have no right to speak out on him. What a dick!!

He’s gotta be smarter than that. It’s all about hot takes, clicks and ratings. Shit he’s on a show every week with tons of hot takes on espn. Lol maybe those toads were faulty after all.

Well, he’s not wrong.

Doesn’t mean that he isn’t an arrogant ass but he’s not wrong with his take about these sports shows and sports media in general.
It is ironic though about the “hot takes” shows criticism that he does a weekly segment on the biggest hot take show on ESPN currently. I know the McAfee Show is different than their conventional shows but still…

Nightly ritual of mine in the late 90s early 2000s. He might be a dick, but he nailed this one.

Rodgers is really tough for me… I really dislike him bc of what he did to the Lions for 15 years… I admire his talent and ability, always been in awe of his accuracy, especially while on the move. Through the non football interviews I’ve heard with him, I actually really like him as a dude… I definitely think I’d enjoy having a beer with him. He’s cut from a different cloth and I don’t think people necessarily know how to understand him, bc he comes off as an asshole (I can relate). He’s easily dislikeable from a distance, but if you get to know him, I’d bet that’d change… Reminds me of Ricky Williams or Randy Moss a little.

Yeah, the days of Stuart Scott, Keith Oberman, Dan Patrick were the best. But my point is just because they never played the game doesn’t mean they can’t have an opinion. Right now Rodgers is in a situation where the older he gets, the better he USED to be. Dude does not handle criticism very well.

Rodgers is an all-time great QB, but at this stage of his career he has zero self-awareness. Sports media may be garbage, but he has one job that he’s getting paid millions for: helping the Jets win games. It doesn’t matter what qualifications the people talking about him have, he just doesn’t like the accurate observation they’re making: he currently sucks at his job.

Yeah, I tend to agree in a way. He’s a little aloof and comes across as a bit of a weirdo but I think he’d be a fascinating guy to talk to in a social environment. He is really self absorbed though, that’s pretty obvious and gives off strong narcissistic vibes but he’s probably an interesting guy to chat with.
However, apparently his teammates love him so that’s probably all that matters to him.

Yours was also my initial reaction to his statement.

This is the guy who decries disinformation and claims he’s done his research and people shouldn’t believe what they read, and then goes on Pat M’s show and spreads the fake news that Goff has had four and five interception games seven times and won them all. The guy who made it up was trolling just to see what would happen. That has happened millions of times, often with malice, and is a big part of why we live in a “post-truth” world. Believe whatever you like and is as valid as anyone who actually knows what they’re talking about.

It’s such an outrageous stat to believe and calls into question his actual ability to discern fact from fiction. I mean, I didn’t believe that stat for a second, but he and others on that show bought it wholesale.

Well said.

Totally agree. He’s one of the most talented quarterbacks of all time, and it’s not wrong to mention him in the same breath with Manning and Brady for the best of this era.

Totally disagree here.

I read him as a total sociopath. As is common with these types, he can put on a pleasant, charming face when he chooses to do so. But it’s totally fake and only comes out when it’s useful. To me, he comes across as someone who is profoundly self-centered, lacking any true empathy.

This is 100% pop psychology diagnosis from a distance, not like I actually know the guy. It just seems consistent with his public behaviors, especially his eviscerating every personal relationship he’s ever had.

Definitely a narcissist. But that exists on a spectrum and it’s hard to know exactly if he is just highly narcissistic or has narcissistic personality disorder. Or worse, as you say, sociopathy. He’d have to submit to an in-depth interview with an expert. But he doesn’t believe experts. He is smarter than them. This is the age we live in.

You both nailed it for me.

Yes.

Next question.

Really, people don’t like him? When did that happen?

Would you just stop confusing things with these takes? I do not want to like Rogers. I do not want to have a beer with him. Even if you are right and I’m wrong, please let us just have Rogers as a vanquished, defeated enemy and let us continue to enjoy having his nose rubbed in the dirt! Stop talking so logically.

I like to think that my views on things evolve as I live and learn.

I think I’m almost to the point where I don’t really dislike any human being even if I hate their behavior. Free will is far more limited than we like to think, for one. And being human is difficult at the best of times.

Highly narcissistic personalities have arrested development. Everyone is a total narcissist as a two-year-old. The whole world revolves around a small child. Some people never really leave that level of development behind. No matter what worldly success they achieve. So can you actually say that person is “bad” if that is their experience? I can dislike what they say and do, especially when it hurts other people, but it’s not like they have a lot of control over what they do unless they decide to address their development with significant effort. Some people are born broken, some people are broken by experience, and in some extreme cases, they need to be permanently removed from society.

He’s a douche. He’s complaining about people commenting on his play when they’ve never played the sport professionally. Yet he’s perfectly comfortable giving medical advice without a medical degree. He is a complete asshole in my book. Always has been, always will be.

As per my above post, I am fine with calling someone an asshole without hating them. It’s a shame some people are assholes, or worse, sometimes much worse. But it does me no good to hate them.
