Is Glenn the best defensive coordinator in football?

I do find it humorous that alot of ppl say “AG sucks!”, but then also say you cant criricize and/or “you dont know shit about football!” if you do criticize Brad for his lack of seriously adressing the DL by not adding real nfl starting talent…and wouldnt Brad pressure Dan to fire AG if AG was so bad, and Brad was so good at his job, but here’s this shitty DC who’s making all his awesoem hand picked players look bad?

Two things can be true at once.

I agree, but there’s lots o folks who would disagree…you cant criticize Brad for his hand in this sub-par DL

The Lions have a Superbowl offense and easy schedule. If I were Brad I would have pulled the trigger on Sweat and probably even Young. I get the argument for not doing such. But me personally, if the opportunity is there to win it all. I’d go for it.

Last 2 road games (against good offences), our D has looked bad.

Our D was also exposed a bit in week 2 against Seahawks too, all these games the DL failed to generate enough pressure and the back 7 didn’t make plays.

And thats the most frustrating part for me…Brad has done SOOO many good things, but it’s mind-knumbing that he seems to not see the glaring need to upgrade the weakest part of this team in the DL. He signed CJGJ, Mosely, Sutton, drafted Branch, I mean ■■■■ YEAH!!!, bu then regadrs to DL he, checks notes, traded up for a project 3rd rd DT, who didnt even play today? I feell like I’m taking crazy pills that it doesnt really annoy more folks that the DL was pretty much ignored😬

I honestly dont enjoy ranting about it, and of course Brad knows more about football talent in his left nut than I do in my whole body, but my gawd man, it’s so frustrating when Lions gm’s seem to not do the common sense things. Like if Brad simply injected another starting caliber DL this off-season/teade dead line, and actually got a kicker Dan feels comfortable going for it from 50+ yards, I’d literally have nothing to bitch about. And if he did those things, and they failed? So be it, but at least it didnt seem like he left cards on the table for no real apperent reason

I would have been happy to add Young last year. He was a guy I liked a lot. The Rams had a very good draft for not having a first round pick. I said that several times after the draft. Brad made his choices. He’s not perfect but he’s by far the best Lions GM of my lifetime.

I agree, but it’s fair that he haa.left some inexplicable holes in some of his decsions when it comes to the DL and a kicker who Dan can trust for 50+ yards…these really dont seem like major reaches for Brad imo, hence my frustrate.

Half of those guys aren’t playing. So we added one CB as of now. We only have two viable ones. At least proven to be so.

We have viable defensive ends at different times in their career. Even Hutch has stalled out now.

I think we are very concerned with our ability to hold up to secondary action off schedule plays. Bc we don’t think the coverage chops for that we play this contain, squeeze the pocket style of pass rush. I don’t agree with it personally but I do think Dan and AG see eye to eye on it.

But al least Brad brought some guys in and tried to upgrade the D back 7…he completely shat his pants on what was arguably the worst position group behind the DB’s in the DL…he did NOTHING regarding the DL, and it’s goig to catch up to them this season, especially Hutch or Alim goes down for any amount of time. How can ppl not see this?

Brad has put a bunch of resources into the DL since arriving. #2OA pick and two seconds and two thirds. Some haven’t worked out but he certainly has not ignored the position.

His first two seasons as GM he didnt ignore the DL, but his third season he basically has, with only adding a project DT he traded up for who isnt even playing, while the DL was still the weakest part of the team. #opposingquaterbacksreadingchaucerinthepocket

And they are ahead of their schedule, but keep preaching.

Bc we ended the season pressuring very, very well. We had the leagues #1 and 2 sacks guys.

The thought process was fix the secondary and then watch the existing guys reap the benefits. And then the injuries hit our back end.

You can’t do everything. We don’t know who they went after and who they didn’t. Everyone is always trying to get better.

That’s all spot on, but Brad, smartest guy in the room, Holmes failed is all that matters.

I think we were counting on a lot more out of Paschal this year and getting pressure from Houston in obvious passing downs. Harris and Romeo have really disappointed as well. Our defense did win games against the packers and the falcons. I like AG as a coach and I hope he does well so we can get 2 third round pick for him.

Stats can be manipulated. If you’re honest with yourself the fact is our D-line looks great against shit teams with shit O-lines. Against playoff caliber teams they haven’t been good.

People will post anything here. “Charlie Brown had hoes.” No he didn’t. That isn’t true.

Manipulated? Our pass rush was really good down the stretch last year. It was good via stats. It was good via the eye test. It was just damn solid down the back 8. And that was without the interior pass rush we’re now getting from Alim. We really, really miss Houston.
