I saw on GMFB they were talking about if Stafford was a 1st ballot hall of famer, and it made me think about Jared Goff and the numbers he has been putting up.
Jared is currently 34th in NFL history in passing yards (35058) and 40th in passing TD’s (222). If he keeps up his average from his time in Detroit, 260 ypg, 1.77 TD/game, he will reach top 10 in passing yards and touchdowns in 6 more seasons. He is already under contract for 4 more seasons with us, and has a HC and OC that won’t change unless something goes really poorly. I think he has a legitimate shot to finish his career well into the top 10. He could crack the top ten after 6 more years (age 37) and still have a few more years left to play. His play style is one that likely won’t fall off as he ages, but could actually get better (like Tom Brady and Stafford). I do think he needs a SB win to be a no doubt HOF’er, but even without one he could still get in just based on these kind of numbers. It would put him into Philip Rivers territory, and Goff at least got to a SB already. I think Rivers will get in and Goff will too. What do you think?
Stepping out of Ben’s shadow and not missing a beat would give him a big boost for an MVP run. He’s fully capable. This is his offense now like never before.
You have to figure out all the other guys who are going to be making that climb with him and probably will be ahead of him. I don’t think he finishes in the top 15 as his Hall eligibility starts unfortunately…
On a related note I just want to see Stafford play two more seasons so he ends up passing Aaron Rodgers
Oh wow. I definitely think he does that. Unless the OL falls apart, then all bets are off. But he’s just gotta be the maestro, he’s got all the weaponz in spades. If he can lead them through this guantlet of a schedule and get a top seed post-Ben, I thinks got a shot at MVP.
I don’t think he needs a SB for HOF credentials. To me he already has HOF cred so in my estimation he should get in. Maybe not first ballot but he is definitely HOF material!
I know I’m in the minority but I think our offense will be better this year.
Goff is the master of the play-action pass, and while Johnson was a very creative OC, I felt like he abandoned the thing Goff was best at far too often.
If Morton just sticks with the things we are great at, (running the ball and play-action pass) we will be a far better offense IMO.
I sure hope you are right brother. My only concern is our elite rushing attack has really set everything up for us the past couple seasons. And like you said Goff is nails off play action. The question to me is can we still run the ball as well with all the youth and inexperience on the oline? The running game should still be solid, but Ragnow was essentially the best run blocking center in the nfl. Monty and Gibbs gonna miss that.
