That was always a possibility and it remains a possibility. He may look incredible for 15 plays a game. And not so much when he’s gassed for 35 others. Time will tell, but I’m fine with how the draft played out. I have some really great blinders.
The risk with Carter was a potential lack of effort and/or dipshittery off the field.
If dude works his butt off and keeps his nose clean, he’s likely going to be a damned good player. Doesn’t necessarily mean not taking the risk was the wrong decision.
There was never any question about Highlight Carter, it was about whether you’re going to see that every play and all season. It was also about how he would deal with adversity, which he’s not seeing as of yet.
Maybe he’s the next Aaron Donald and we all regret it, but in the here and now, it’s too soon to forget why the Lions and others like Seattle passed on him.
Many teams passed on Warren Sapp, Chris Jones, and Jeffrey Simmons as well. DT with “character concerns”
Our draft could have easily been:
6- Carter DT 18- Campbell MLB 45- Branch NB
*68- Hyatt WR/Tillman , Kraft TE, Hooker QB
81- Washington TE Achane/Spears RB,
*122- Stetson Bennett QB, Cam Young NT, Charlie Jones WR
*137 Darius Rush CB (use 7th from Philly to move up 2 spots for DB just like round 2)
152 TRADE DOWN and get RB Deuce Sproles & WR Antoine Green they went picks 212 & 219. We could also draft a different developmental OG or Sorsdal who likely could’ve been there 10,20,30,50 picks later.
Essentially, we wanted elite offensive talent early at RB & TE over the superstar DT with questions. We opted to get the DT later rather than the RB&TE later.
It was a pretty deep draft at RB & TE this past year…
The team Georgia is driving wild. You’d think they’d have it cleaned up by now with death and arrested team mates
15th arrest over driving
University of Georgia football coaching staff member Jarvis Jones was arrested on reckless driving and speeding charges late Friday, the Atlanta-Journal Constitution reports.
Jones, the team’s player connection coordinator, is the 15th member of the program to face a reckless driving or speeding charge since the crash that killed offensive lineman Devin Willock and recruiting staffer Chandler LeCroy on Jan. 15, according to the Constitution.
I would imagine that college coaches go to bat for tons of kids there are at best ambivalent about. The incentives are such that it’s for the better of the program to do so. For them to not come to bat for Jalen does indeed seem like a major red flag.
I suspect you’re more apt to get truthful answers from the blue bloods since they’re gonna recruit themselves one way or the other, but that doesn’t really make it any less of a red flag.
One thing to factor in is that Isaiah Wilson went to Georgia. According to reports, Georgia withheld information on him that would have had a substantial impact on his draftability.
For anyone needing a recap, Wilson was a 1st round pick at OT that went to the Titans. He got into trouble immediately in the NFL and his downward spiral clearly showed mental instability. He only played 4 total snaps in the NFL. He had that many suspensions. He was so mentally unstable that the Titans moved on after 1 year…as a 1st round pick. Despite only playing 4 snaps way back in the 2020 season as his only NFL experience, he is STILL suspended by the NFL for the first 3 games of the 2023 season. That’s how messed up this kid was. Georgia did not give an accurate picture to NFL personnel departments.
