Jamel Dean FA CB

All it is , is a prediction. I can see holmes going after a cb in FA, and then some cheaper signings

Price will have to be right for any FA from any position.
Holmes is smart & way ahead of us.
That Ba(l)d MF’r is considering things we haven’t even thought of yet.

I’m not huge on throwing money at a bunch of free agents…
but if you can get top tier player at a premium position that has the character to want to be great and win even after getting paid…

I’m not saying Dean is Ramsey… but the the Rams gave up 2 first rounders AND paid Ramsey a huge deal… and they don’t regret it for a second.

Even if Dean gets $17-18 million AAV… the only thing that matters is how he plays. If he keeps up what he put on tape…
it is still worth it…. and I know… that you know… the contract can always be tinkered with later to massage the cap numbers.

I just look at the #6 OA pick… who will get a little over $30 million guaranteed over 4 years… and will be a total unknown in the NFL…
and most likely not be any where near Dean as a player in year #1.

That makes me OK with giving Dean what PFF projects as his possible worth on the market….

Thats the thing though, if you could guarantee me Dean plays at the level he is currently at or better then I’d be all in.

Unfortunately, high paid FA’s tend to struggle to live up to their contracts. Obviously not all, but the success rate seems 50/50 at best.

Everything I know about Dean tells me he isn’t the type of player that would mail it in once he gets paid, but all I know if what I’ve read. Thankfully, Randle El spent two seasons in Tampa with Dean during his first two seasons, and although Randel El coached WR’s I bet he would be able to provide a lot of key information regarding Dean.

Good point about Randel El having been in the same building in Tampa.

I don’t love the idea of giving big money to a FA…but adding a #1 corner gives us a lot more options in the draft. Right now I consider CB a must draft in the 1st round. If we added a CB1, I don’t see that anymore.

Not sure High Priced FAs are in play considering draft capital and growth potential with the young guys on hand

Be interesting to see how this plays out

I honestly think we need to add a CB in both FA and the draft.

I do also…but it doesn’t have to be a high priced FA one. I suggested in a previous thread a guy like Troy Hill would work as a FA to go along with a 1st round rookie.

Signing a CB like Dean means we could wait till either pick in round 2 to draft one.

Side note…I haven’t watch anything on Forbes yet but I did see that he had 14 INTs in three years and took 6 to the house! That’s some crazy production. Surprised I don’t hear more about him being in the running for top CB in this draft. I can come to some natural conclusions as to why this is…maybe slow, maybe a gambler, maybe character issues. But there’s no denying a guy has some ridiculous instincts and football IQ to consistently create turnovers and turn them into touchdowns.

I think we need 3 solid CB’s to boost our secondary.

I want to see us sign one in FA, Draft a CB and NB.

Then resign Elliot and add a SS/ Box safety depth guy.

Or give me Branch who can fill the NB/S role.

Regardless I hope to see a lot of changes at DB.

In a pinch we put Bly out there

If we choose to dominate, we just run Fox out there. May have to pay him more though

I just know that CB Emmanuel Moseley is going to be high on Holmes FA list. Probably his top target.

He’s a good corner coming off an ACL injury …. Just the type of bargain Holmes won’t be able to resist.

I definitely thought of him as a value signing at CB. I’d prefer to aim a little higher then Mosley, but he has been pretty solid in San Fran.

I definitely think we could bring in Troy Hill, but to
Me that isn’t enough in FA at CB. Troy Hill is a solid depth piece who can add experience to the DB group and competition at nickel. Would it surprise you if he wasn’t the day 1 starting nickel? To me it wouldn’t at all.

We need a vet that can come in and be a day 1 starting CB on the outside. Someone who has played at a high level before. Someone who can show guys like Jacobs, Lucas, Okudah, and any rookies a thing or two.

Whether that is Bradberry, Dean, Peters, Ramsey, or Peterson, I don’t really care. I just think it would be wise to bring a CB like that in.

True. What is the success rate when teams lose the best OC in the NFL? We have the youngest roster in the NFL, zero locker room problems, and our top ā€œbig nameā€ FA is DJ Chark. It’s time to admit that we are not only ahead of schedule but we are a SB contender with an AGGRESSIVE offseason AND Ben Johnson dialing up the offense and calling plays. To me Brad ā€œshouldā€ see this as well. But if he doesn’t see life in 2024 without Johnson, then he’s looking through too rosey of glasses. I’m not saying destroy our future for 2023. I am saying go ahead and get a CB1 and Daron Payne in FA along with our guys we want to sign. Then that can help you be more aggressive in the draft. Like last year in our trade up for Jamo, this year it could be a trade up for Bijan and we’d still be able to get the top CB in our view and RG1 out of the first 2 rounds. Add a couple LB’s and fill out depth.

Or… we can ā€œstay the course.ā€ Retain Benito Jones types along with the rest of our higher priced guys like JWill, Elliot and keeping Romeo. Have a great draft, make the playoffs and early exit and go into 2024 with a lot of cap room, a playoff team and a new OC.

I am trying to be realistic here to what may happen. I don’t think we go out and buy a bunch of players. I would be surprised if we bring in one high priced FA honestly.

I’m not sure if it will be Dean because he could be very expensive, but adding a vet corner in free agency is basically a must in my book. Sure we can draft a couple corners. But, then we would have Okudah, Jacobs, 2 rookies and Lucas, who is basically a rookie because he barely played this year. That would be a group severely lacking in experience. They gotta add at least 1 solid vet into the mix in free agency IMO.

The board is going to go wild when we bring Will Harris back…calling that now. Prepare yourselves, haha

I’d perfectly understand if they didn’t want to spend big in FA. That doesn’t mean we can’t add a solid vet CB. Marcus Peters and Patrick Peterson would be reasonable additions and Peters is probably looking at. 2 year 16mil deal and Peterson a 1 year 6-8mil deal.
