I’m a huge Peters fan. I love corners who make plays. Even if they gamble a little too much. Patrick Peterson is a nice idea too. We be thrilled if we got either player.
I just can’t get behind going after Payne. I think he is severely overrated and he peaked in a contract year. He is gonna go back to being a solid starter next year and someone is going to be stuck paying 20mil AAV to a player worth 10mil AAV.
Give me Javon Hargrave over Payne. He will cost a good bit less and is a much better player.
Yea I really like that idea. Get a solid vet, without having to give him a long term contract. And then still draft a corner in round 1.
Peters
Jacobs
Okudah
1st round rookie
Lucas
All of a sudden that group is looking quite a bit better. Maybe draft another corner in the mid rounds to complete with Lucas.
I like his brother Jimmy better.
Jimmy McGill?

I like Hargrave (was a fan when he was a prospect) and he’s probably my 1b. But the youth factor and the fact that the guy is just always available, I’m betting on the upside of that with Payne when investing the money. Whatever we’d spend on a FA DT, give yourself 10M that you aren’t spending at the position after you move on from Brockers contract. Peaking (11.5 sacks and 64 Tackles) last season, at his age (25) isn’t something that detracts me from signing him. Quite the opposite. I’d feel with the guys I’ve got now, I’d be putting him in a great position to succeed. The dude has missed ONE game in his career (81 games) and zero in the last 3 seasons. He’s never put up less than 54 tackles in a season so he’s very good against the run. But I wouldn’t cry if we got Hargrave either.
I think Dean and Payne will cost close to 40mil a year total… which absolutely would be detrimental to our ability to resign our own studs in the future. Building thru the draft requires saving money in FA for the guys we developed here in our system. It is a much safer long term approach.
also → when you have Holmes, it gives you a massive window of opportunity.
M. It sure if I said it already but I don’t want Jamel dean. If we sign him I’ll root for him but I’d rather a one year prove it guy or an older low cost vet over paying him so much… would honestly rather give that money to chark
But that is not how contracts get worked. Both of these guys are young, and you are going to want to sign them to longer term deals, pushing bonus money over the contract duration. The player gets the money early and the guarantee on the money, so to them it’s just ink on paper. To the cap, in no universe are we having to pay Dean and Payne 20M in 2023. We are also sitting with Goff who’s contract we could play with since it does appear we are rolling with him. The cap will go up. Brocker’s money comes off, etc. Is it better on the cap to go slower and build through the draft? Yes, but you are also going to go slower in the win column and so it depends a lot for me what you think of the Ben Johnson effect.
Those who feel (like me) that we have magic in a bottle for exactly ONE more year, are going to want to go more aggressive this offseason. If you are like meh… next man up, it’s the culture - then you are going to be more concerned with the methodic march to a dynasty, whenever that happens.
Before injury he was expected to be the top FA CB this season. Higher than Dean whom you want. So I’m not sure why you make a statement like this.
I still want him to bring his good friend playing over at LB.
Not mad if they don’t. I understand sometimes the money just isn’t smart for two players like that at the same time.
But I’d love to see it on Sundays.
And those like me think that is the worst possible philosophy and strategy given this teams youth and cap status.
Who considered him to be the best CB entering FA before his injury? Moseley is an UDFA who has struggled with injuries throughout most of his time in San Fran. He has four career interceptions and has played on one of the best defenses in the NFL for the majority of his career. Not sure in what world he is a better player than Dean or Bradberry, healthy or not.
He was a solid #2 CB more often than not when he was on the field for San Fran. Would love to add him to this team as a cheap option who is quality starting competition.
Maybe this will help you. Here’s the calculated market value each will get in FA. Keep in mind Mosley is coming off an ACL tear too.
Spotrac is not a great source of information for projected contract values. They have Evan Brown at almost 11mil and DeShon Elliot at 10mil. I could go through and lost many out of touch estimates for a bunch of players.
I was gonna see what PFF projected for Moseley in their recent top 100 list but they don’t even have him on it.
why take players coming off of injury-don’t slap me, just asking.
I was joking that he was high on Holmes list. Since Holmes likes to gravitate towards injury prone players.
