Alright, someone help me out. Going into this year, he was a top 10 draft pick. Guys is highly productive and tests off the chart. Played in the SEC and dominated.
I keep seeing mock draft of him falling to the 2nd round. Draft Kings has his draft position at 31.5. Jeff Risdon said he doesn’t fit what the Lions want. Is it his size or something else? I mean, the guy is exactly what I would want opposite of Hutch, even if he comes in on pass rush situation for Pascal.
What are your guys thoughts here? My brain isn’t big enough to figure out why he is falling.
There’s been a lot of talk on him for this board from @Thats2 and others. There are major character concerns with him. He is basically an anti-Lion. Pearce has attitude issues, has been said to be uncoachable, and had handlers at Tennessee just to keep him out of trouble. Pearce sounds like the definition of “high maintenance”.
Which basically screams he will be drafted by the Eagles, and will turn into a monster.
I was going to make a similar comment on the comparison to Jamo not being a fit.
Most of Jamo’s issues seem to be tied to maturity not work ethic or love of game.
Appreciate the responses, I have been out of the loop on off the field stuff. Didn’t we hear the same exact thing with Jalen Carter? End of the day, at pick 28, I am willing to take a guy like this that is a flame thrower and get to the QB. It is worth the gamble and hope Dan and crew can make some adjustments on the off the field stuff.
They passed on Jalen Carter who was a way better prospect so Pearce is likely off their board completely.
The Lions like a very specific type of player/person. Pearce is the antithesis of that which, again, baffles me as to why some of these lazy mock drafters are picking the Lions to take him including Eric Woodyard who actually covers the Lions.
This is what one of the scouts said about him in the Bob McGinn series I bring up a lot.
"At Tennessee, he was literally a no-go. You ask somebody there: ‘Hey, if you had a chance to come to the league, would you bring this guy?’ They’re, like, ‘Absolutely not.’ On his own program. The whole team’s working out and he’s in his apartment. They didn’t know where he was.”
No one’s trying to get him to fall. Now he might fall and go to Philly and end up great, but all the reports are the same. The falling part is all based on his behavior.
I feel like I heard either Dan or Brad taking about “character” concern players once. Like they said where having one on your team, as long as the talent is amazing, is ok. Having all the other guys around to lead makes it manageable.
Which led me to the thought that multiple players with character concerns is what they’ avoid.
Then again, if you’re shooting for this season, stack the talent and leave it to the wind.
