Jared Goff # thoughts

Knowing how diligent Holmes is, I’m confident that he has at least inquired with Goff’s agent on what a new contract would look like from Goff’s side. Agree with you it wouldn’t happen until after the draft.

Lions will likely ask for and offer a very team friendly deal with Goff that gives him more guaranteed, but a relatively low cap hit for a QB of his production.

If Goff is wanting to keep the Lions light so they can add more talent, that would be a win for both sides in my opinion, much like Brady did with the Patriots.

I would guess that Detroit has done nothing in decades, we have went to the playoffs-how many years ago?? don’t have a bowl win, and last season , we happened to do better than the season before, but to the rest of the league and the other teams, it’s like big friggen deal !
People will question this team and it’s QB until he wins a RING HERE.

posters say Goff is top 10 quite a bit… I said, Goff has proven his self as a top NFL QB…HE beat Aaron Rogers in some areas last season, but I tell you—It’ll never be enough-- just exactly like it wasn’t enough when Stafford was here, nobody cared wtf he did or his records as a LION , "It was just Matt Stafford , forever flawed-right? Jared has stepped into that role now -here, nobody will be absolutely satisfied with Goff unless he can earn a ring in Detroit.

But it’s not what you are describing. A large majority who were anti Stafford are now pro Goff. If it was what you were describing, it would make total sense. But people here so badly want Goff to get it done just so they can HAHA to those that loved Stafford.

It can be denied by the Goff supporters all they want, but it’s as obvious as the sky is blue.

mmm I think they are "sort of " content with Goff cuurently, but like every other draft…let’s draft a QB and move on from Jared or QB A, B, C I’d say those that are Pro Goff want him here a while.

I dont think it is a large majority, most vocal yes.

Yes, then they will credit the coaching staff lol (and not, Goff and the coaches). Luckily, as far as I can tell, Goff wants to win and doesn’t pay attention to the narrative (you really can’t if you want to stay sane).

@DeadStroke

It’s extremely rare for a veteran on a veteran contract.

Like your examples showed that’s usually a rookie out playing his rookie deal and they want to lock him up long term.

Vets it rarely happens with unless their trying to drive down their current cap hit or something.

99% of the NFL players are either done after their 2nd contracts or going to be making considerably less.

QB’s generally are the only ones who get healthy 3rd contracts.

There is nothing wrong with extending Goff this year and there is nothing wrong with waiting until next season. There are advantages to both scenarios, but nothing significant.

You can go back an check I was a Pro Matt fan an when we got Goff an the first season i was really anti Goff . He won me over last season as bad as we started he stay solid an improved a lot an the whole team figured out how an what it takes to win . That included the staff.

I am 100% with Goff now that after last year with weapons he showed what he can do.

Yeah, I’m not sure that’s the case. I think most of the people who thought a rookie quarterback was the magic potion during the Stafford years still think that a rookie quarterback is the solution to all problems.

Yep, I would also say that there are a lot of posters that used to dog on Stafford now dog on Goff.

There is a certain segment of our poster base that will never be happy with a pocket passing QB and will continue to undervalue Goff because they want that dual threat QB.

I will also state that I was a huge Stafford fan and defender and also believe Goff can take this team to the super bowl.

By the way, where’s JRLions when you need him. This board desperately needs someone on here that knows how to properly evaluate QBs.

It’s actually the complete opposite. Stafford haters are now Goff supporters.

Interesting perspective.

Why mock a guy who can’t defend himself?

I would say there’s a pretty even match in all categories.

Stafford hater who now like Goff
Stafford supporter who now like Goff
Stafford supporters who don’t like Goff
Stafford haters who don’t like Goff

You only key in on the Stafford haters who now like Goff because it goes against your beliefs (Stafford supporter who doesn’t like Goff).

I fall into the Stafford supporter who also likes Goff. and there are more like me. 2 others have already posted in this thread.

You don’t know what you are talking about……my uncles and his dad grew up together, played baseball together. We are all from Marin….didn’t move to Michigan till I was 14…..I don’t dislike the kid of one of my uncle(s) best friends.

I don’t dislike him at all. He had a phenomenal season…..So tired of having to say that. He is a great guy. He is tough, he went through shit. I think he stays here on a TF deal. The PUSHBACK that you see is me pushing back on the idea that it’s set in stone thst Goff is the guy when it’s not. It’s okay to say there have been convos and speculation about the future. That’s what I do….I share what I hear…..I mean it’s annoying when people tell me, “yo, Goff is as good as mahomes” and when you look at them sideways you are labeled a hater……..if you choose to just disregard anyone in the football world who says “is it possible for Goff to be the guy??” Fine, that’s your prerogative…..but both sides have credibility.

Man, it’s wild. You can like Goff and propose scenarios in which he isn’t the long-term solution here and people lose their minds and call you a Goff hater.

I think the Lions have been truly lucky to land on Goff after moving on from Stafford. I like(d) both of these guys, but there is a very real possibility that the Lions move on from Goff in the near future and I hope the next guy does just as good as his predecessors.

That’s well put. I really don’t get why you can’t look at Goff and his peers objectively and just say “ya he hasn’t performed like this guy in the playoffs”….and that’s what you want a guy who does well in the playoffs. Like honestly look at this list and say who you would or wouldn’t want as your qb or at least who you would be MOST comfortable with in the playoffs? Didn’t say Goff can’t win a Super Bowl……saying on this list who are you most confident in being your qb???

If you would have given up on Stafford when he was 28 he would have been 0 and 3 in the playoffs. At 28 Goff is 3 and 3 and 2 of those games he played weeks after having surgery on the thumb of his throwing hand. We get it.

ahem 9 QBs threw for over 4,000 yards. Cousins threw 4,500+. Geno threw for over 4,000. Hurts threw for less. I’m pretty sure Goff is better than Cousins, and Geno (pretty equal honestly), and Hurts is better than Goff. 4,000 yards is like kind of expected, and he better with the talent around him.

At this point everyone knows I don’t consider Goff a great QB. Saying he’s good is even pushing it for me. But I will say this… It is extremely hard to find a quality starting QB. Let alone an elite one. Goff is surrounded by great talent. And a great scheme. He plays great within that scheme. So he is capable enough to win. So QB is not a need.

But there is another flip side. If Goff goes up against Mahomes, or Burrow, or 2021/2022 Brady, Allen, or Stafford. The Lions will lose.
