Montana was a little mobile… Tom Brady is the ultimate game manager QB, his competitiveness and motivation is what made him the GOAT. QBs like that can play for a long long time, look at Flacco, he can still play if he is clean.
I would say a quarter maximum, and the 4th at that. Sure, it’d be nice to see him, but the Lions are heading into the playoffs. If anyone needs some reps in case something happens to Goff, it’s Teddy.
I have no idea how to rank QBs
Stat Padford wasn’t that great to many
Goff is now one of the best
Brick Purdy MVP candidate
Team game
OL
Running game
WRs
Defense
These are ignored regardless of QB stats

I disagree that no one will trade a 2rd pick for Hooker and anyone that thinks we should not sign Goff should agree.
Really it comes down to the prospects in this years draft
- Williams
- Maye
- Jayden Daniels
- Bo Nix
- Penix Jr.
- Shedeur Sanders
- Carson Beck
- J.J McCarthy
I can easily see teams evaluating HH around the Bo Nix/Penix Jr. range which are projected to be 1st rd picks.
Agree 100%, Teddy will need the reps far more than Hooker does.
I still have questions on how well Hooker can run an NFL offense that is designed around Goff’s strengths. Play action, putting his back to the field in front of him for a split second and then able to see the field and go through progressions, Goff can do this successfully.
I have never seen Hooker do this, as HH stated recently last time he played under center was early in HS. The learning curve is steep for him. He has a great arm and some mobility but that is a small part of this offense.
If someone wanted to spend a second for Hooker they could have last year. What’s he shown since then except a long stint on NFIR?
This kind is smacks of the same chatter around the draft when I said it would be lunacy for a team to spend a first round pick on a 26 yard old prospect from gimmicky offense with a torn ACL. Injury and offense aside, he would have been the oldest first round pick QB since I think the 70’s
I said then that he should be a middle round pick and looks like I was right. Now if he balls out for a couple pre seasons and maybe fills in well if Goff is injured, then we might be able to flip him for a second round pick.
Brandon Weeden was 28.5 years old when taken as pick 22 in 2012.
Lol, he was almost as old as Goff is now.
forgot about Weeden. Also Druckenmiller was the same age as Hooker. so Hooker would have been tied for second oldest QB taken in the first round since 1967
You ask what’s different than last year when he was a 3nd round pick?
-
he was hurt and out for the year!! Not many teams are going to pick a player in round 1/2 that can’t play that year
-
The QB class, i am not someone that can rate QBs and apparently neither can GMs see Brice Young. But its different and our Jedi GM believes HH was a 1st rd talent
-
i think there are at least 3 teams that need a cheap QB option: Denver, Vegas, and Cleveland. Then there are another group that could need an upgrade Pittsburgh, New Orleans, and Atlanta. Note these are teams outside of ton 10.
EVERYTHING HAS TO BE PERFECT AROUND GOFF!!!
Let’s ignore the top rated OLs and top 5-10 defense most other division leaders have.
Let’s ignore how rare it is for a team to win 12-13 games with a bottom 10 defense. Goff has now done it twice in his career.
Everything is perfect for JG here, except that fact that he has to score 28 points a week or we lose.
While other teams win 6-0… 3-0…. 14-9 etc a handful of times a year
Agreed.
Now that Jamo and Gibbs are both getting serious reps, we should be able to pull off a few of those.
AND the Lions have the 3rd-rated offense by yards and the 5th rated by ppg.
Let’s not Goff the offense by hammering on a so-called weakness while ignoring the fact that it’s nevertheless among the league’s best.
I was in a Goff argument with one of the posters here last year. I said if the defense were even mediocre last year we would be looking at 13 wins and talking about a first round bye.
Was rebuffed however….lo and behold. The defense has ticked up, we are looking at finishing the season with possibly 13 wins and a first round bye
3984 is 3rd in passing through 16 weeks.
Kinda wild. I guess the league is leaning on the run morer
Indeed.
This year, the Lions have the 5th-best scoring offense and the 24th-ranked scoring defense.
Last year, they had the 4th-ranked scoring offense and the 28th-ranked scoring defense.
“I was told” that the defense had a better chance than the offense of being a top-10 unit.
But, no.
The problem is the defense.
No, seriously, people: it’s the defense.
No shit, but only because Goff’s lazy ass won’t play D-Line.
You can win a SB with Trent Dilfer, that’s a fact.
No one has ever won a SB with Goff, that is also a fact.
We could win a SB with Goff, is a reasonable hope.
We can lose a SB because of Goff is equally reasonable.
I like Goff because he commands this offense which was literally built with his input around what he does well, I don’t like Goff because he’s far more likely to turn the ball over than he is to lead a 4th Q game winning drive.
Just looking at his positive stats is no more accurate of a picture of him than just looking at his negative stats.
He’s our guy, so I’m behind him, but we depend on our OL waaaay more than our QB to win games.
And he did it all without being able to throw a spiral
This is a such a lazy take…
The eyeball test is constantly lying…. 22-29 for 280 yards and 2 TDs with 0-1 turnovers is great QB play…. On most teams, on most weeks that wins.
The problem tomorrow night isn’t Goff vs Dak, it’s the Lions Defense on the road vs a Cowboys offense, and Goff will be playing a Cowboy D that is tough at home.
Take at look at J Allen or Tua stats the last 2 weeks vs Dallas. Pretty paltry.
