I show you stats from a reputable source that show that Goff thrives under pressure. You lift up a talking point about Goff getting “rattled” under pressure w/no effort to reconcile your take with the stats that debunk it.
And then!: “Honestly most mediocre QBs would look great in this offense.”
100% yes → he’s getting mentally stronger.
Some ppl are in love with the “Goff is our savior… Let’s build a statue” narrative.
He HAS been a blessing & he HAS helped us a lot.
That said, I could see him going to a different coaching staff and flopping major league. Goff is doing fantastically for us, but he is NOT CLOSE to the same guy that stepped on the field game one of last season…NOT CLOSE.
This staff has helped every single player on this roster to improve immensely.
Stats, stats, stats… instead, watch the game and see what your eyes tell you.
Goff is one of the most improved players on our team. Super proud of him. You have to be willing to challenge your own ego/stories to do what he has done
Loving it. All of it. I think Goff will b here long term, because he has the balls to listen and challenge himself. He is NOT a natural tough guy. He is getting tougher, and that is one of the toughest things ppl can do.
This team is gonna be NASTY next year & Goff is contributing to that culture more, instead of having to be lifted by the culture.
I think they will take a run at one or two big names just like they did with Marcus Williams last year. Maybe someone like Hargraves or Payne. I don’t see them giving a huge long term deal to a player who isn’t a difference maker though and I fully expect a lot of solid core guys like Buggs, Comminsky, Will Harris, Brown, Anzalone and Elliott will be resigned on two year deals for modest enough terms.
I can’t remember where I heard it or read it but from what it sounded like, they are more than happy with Evan Brown being the starter at RG.
I do think they’ll start churning guys on that O-line, expect 2 on rookie deals at all time as starters. I’d suspect Sewell abd Rags as locks but if Rags keeps getting injured, maybe they eventually let him walk and lock Decker up instead.
We have a good problem with our O-line.
That pressure hasn’t caused him to make any turnovers in a while now. And ask Brady how not having a solid OL in front of you effects your play. TB starting to get healthy on the OL again and at the right time. NFC is wide open.
Goff has made significant strides this year when moving in the pocket. The coaching staff made that an emphasis… and it is paying off.
He might not quite be Brady-like at this point…
but Brady is the poster child for a guy who will never outrun an edge rusher… but can be lethal in the pocket with subtle movement and quick diagnosis of the coverage.
The great thing about o-line guys is they typically have long careers… so they make good candidates to lock up long-term… and then restructure when cap space is needed.
I have eyes. Goff is Goff. There is a reason Rams shipped him out for Stafford.
Goff has 50.6 passer rating, 38.3 completion percentage while under pressure. No starter has been sacked less than Goff but Brady. So like I said he’s barely touched. But when under pressure he is a bad QB
Throwing the ball away and not causing a turnover doesn’t make him a bad QB in my eyes. Goffs not had an INT in like 8 games and the lions have won 6 of them. I’m good with our QB.
An injury decimated line yeah. But Mahomes can make amazing tight window throws, kill you in pocket, off script, with legs. Which Goff is incapable of doing is my point
Yet he didn’t make plays on the biggest stage with a decimated line, which actually was your original point (can’t make plays if OLine has a bad game but Mahomes can)
Any second, the rest of our fans will realize that McVays problem with Goff was personal, and not performance based.
Like ALL “Elite” QB’s, he needs weapons.
Well he regressed in 2019 because the Rams Oline went from top five to 30th ranked. It doesn’t matter what scheme is being played. If an Oline is second worst, an offense and QB will struggle
The Lions Oline this year is pretty good. The tackle play and Rags have been solid. The guard position has been an issue. They are 10th best in run block win rate and 14th in pass block win rate
I also think it’s myth that Goff struggled because McVey whispered plays into his ear. This notion goes that teams ‘figured out’ to change the defensive alignment after the headset cut out
Except all coaches ‘whisper into the ear’ of the QB. It’s how the play comes in. And all defenses can disguise their looks and have been doing it way longer than against Goff. Goff went to the line with probably as many alert options then as he does now
They had 3 OL spots revolving injured players….
with 8 different players hitting 34% or more snap share for the season.
The 2021 Lions had Decker and Ragnow missing much of the season as well.
Mahomes is one of the top QB talents in NFL history… and he couldn’t win when his O line was injured.
Goff will never beat teams with his legs… but Tom Brady or Peyton Manning never did either. Goff is improving at recognizing early pressure… sliding around in the pocket… and avoiding negative plays.
Mobility is a “plus” quality… but also not a requirement.
Goff hasn’t thrown a pick since Nov 4!
I’m tired of the Bullshit.
Goff is Elite and you haters look foolish. Everyone is wrong sometimes. It’s how you handle being wrong that is the difference between asshole and human.
So your argument is that Goff isn’t Mahomes so he isn’t that good and we should move on from him? I’m confused why your argument against Goff seems to always include the best QB on the best team as a comparison.
If we move on past Goff, who do you suggest we move on to? There is no one in this years draft that is better than Goff. Williams at USC is the closest I’ve seen to Mahomes and we won’t be getting him next year either.
