This was a good trade for them. Draft picks especially late ones are overrated. They’re going to be contending for a few years which they already were. It’s win now for maybe 2-3 years. And then when thats over they’ll still have their core players and be fine. As long as they draft well in the 2nd rounds and later they won’t lose anything.
Right now, if he was available, I would trade two first round picks for Surtain or Stingley. Without question. Why? Because the Lions don’t need late first round picks. Good teams don’t need them. Bad teams do. We can get good players in the 2nd, and 3rd rounds and so on.
It’s still an interesting class for sure but it has taken some lumps at QB and WR. WR is still nice but not what was once hoped. I was always a bit skeptical of QB bc you had to squint on pretty much all of the guys. I still think Mestemaker and Carr go way up high. Less certain of everyone else. And then we’ll have to see what sort of effect the NIL situation has.
I guess I see this trade in the opposite direction. This is a big time move for the Titans. They traded an aging star for big time draft capital that can transform their franchise. They needed a move like this.
One key injury and this whole scenario is blows up in their face. Those 1st round picks aren’t guaranteed to be late round picks. Been seeing the same sentiment on X and I don’t understand why people think they are automatically getting two picks in the 28-32 range. I’ve read Bears fans talking about how they are pretty much like second round picks that they gave up.
Steep price… Can’t fault them for trying to go all in if they think this gets them over the top. I think this move definitely affects GB and Minnesota more than Detroit bc both of their iOL suck. Maybe I’m bias, but I think this move was partially aimed at Detroit’s investment in their guards and center as well as trying to affect Goff by getting pressure in his face. I love Simmons, he’s basically Suh in his prime. This helps Chicago immediately, but definitely limits them in 27 and beyond.
I think if i had to pick top 3 QB’s rn, its Prolly Mestemaker, Carr and Mensah most likely. In that order? who knows
I know Mensah doesnt have the best arm… but 3 years of good college QB play, hes got the experince and fantastic processing, which is his biggest edge over the other two.
Honestly, Mensah might be the most startable of all the QB’s outside of maybe Moore? even then rather have Mensah.
I didnt realize that Simmons already made the Bears defense “very good” without even taking a snap. Clearly he is phenomenal and at the Garrett level if he can do all of that without even touching the field yet!
I think he makes them better, im not stupid, but these overreactionary takes to trades before they even have a chance to show their impact is quite comical. I will just leave you with this…
Exactly. It’s one player on a football team who plays a position where he’s off the field ~25% of the time. He has never even been in the conversation as one of the best defenders in the league. The same crowd making this a huge deal are the same who were hyper critical of not adding JPJ. He sure has transformed that Cowboy defense huh…
A very good player, but we just added Brian Branch for nothing…that Bears team/defense was still better last year. So was their offensive line.
The only way I’m giving up 2 first round picks is if you are offering a very good QB or an elite OT in his prime. For any other position I’d rather take my chances in the draft. Even a late 1st can shoot up in value on draft day as teams with multiple 2nd round picks want to jump ahead before they lose a player they really want.
If Bears win the SB it’s worth it. If Bears have injury issues and all of a sudden those picks start looking better and better….. It’s a gamble by the Bears but if I’m a Bears fan I’m excited. I like how the bengals did it. One pick that was already slotted for a stud DT.
Packers looked great with Parson…..until he got injured. And looking at that roster right now the packers could have used those draft picks especially along the OL.
