I’m with you on that. Usually it means there are viable QB prospects at the top of the draft and little difference beyond that. The echo chamber of group think leads us to generational talk every couple of years.
This trade is terrible. The Parsons trade was terrible. The all-in move/go for it moves rarely work. We built through the draft and it has resulted in a 41-17 record over the last 3+ years. Because we have stuck to the idea of building through the draft and giving the big money to our own, we aren’t cap stuck with high priced old FAs. We have been a contender since 2023 and will continue to be one as our core is mostly just getting into their prime.
DeForest Buckner was just had for a 4th rounder…he’s not Simmons, but that compensation difference is hilarious. The Bears have Caleb Williams, Colston Loveland, Rome Odunze, Luther Burden, and Darnell Wright that make up their entire young core. We are better at every position across the board and that’s not including Hutch, Campbell, Alim, and BB. All of who are 26 or younger. Their D is old, expensive, and now they have no 1st round picks the next 2 years? Will have no top 50 players coming in via the draft and are already 40m over the cap for 2027? Their needs are only going to grow while our entire roster is significantly young with 10-12 core players in place for a while. You have to be good in the draft once you get up against the cap with a lot of high priced talent. They have 12 total picks the next 2 years with no 1sts. Also, 5 of their top 10 players are 30+…good luck maintaining a competitive team beyond 2027.
This blows up in the Bears face. Someone else posted it…their SB odds go from 10-1 to 9-1 with this move. It’s beyond an overpay for a guy approaching 30.
Every actual Lions fan in here knows this was a great trade for Detroit, because it was a bad trade for Chicago. We are 4-2 with a questionable defense, two contracts up in the air, all of our draft capital, and plenty of cap room. Anyone who believes 2026 is our “window,” is simply wrong…
The Bears will go 12-5 or 11-6 and not win it all… their young offensive weapons aren’t really developing as intended, and they have contracts coming due on D. They would have been better off keeping Dexter, a ton of money and 2 first round picks
