Jets Fire GM

First the coach, now the GM.

AG and Agnew headed to New York next year?

AG did play 8 years for the Jets.

I know AG wants to be a HC, but goodness, who in the world would want to deal with Rodgers? What a PITA.

Beat me to it Rugby

They’re going to be in cap hell for the first two years, minimum.

I haven’t done any research into their cap situation but I trust your statement. I hope there’s better opportunities out there for him to succeed without having to deal with the mess that is the Jets.

Rodgers is now the first player/coach/GM in league history.

He wasn’t before?

Joe Douglas makes all the moves his owner demands, and then gets fired for it. This is why people should always seek to control their own destiny. If you’re going to get fired anyway, let it be for refusing to destroy a team.

I think AG is destined for New Orleans although I could see both he and Ben staying if the Lions don’t win the SB, unfinished business etc. so I guess they’ll be gone then

This may be a tough offseason for the Lions.
There are only 32 GM jobs in the NFL and they don’t open up as often as Coaching jobs, but I think Agnew can wait a little longer than getting involved with the Jet mess.
The Lions may lose Agnew, Ben Johnson and AG.
Agnew will likely seek to hire Ben or AG, and take a few front office people with him.
I know Holmes and Campbell have been preparing for it and have a succession plan in place.
But it will still be a huge shock to the organization to lose a bunch of key leaders at the same time.

The Lions will be fine. Brad and Dan run this thing, everybody else is expendable. I hope they stay but this train will keep steaming ahead without them.

He drafted a lot of good players, missed on Wilson. Not sure who was responsible for the Rodgers signing, seemed like a good idea on paper for a ready made roster.

Except for at probably the most important position group in football… oline where i always felt would kill that team and rodgers remaining career

I think AVT was a good pick though he’s been hurt too much to really show it, but choosing Becton over Tristan Wirfs was an all-time mistake.

From the “glad we don’t have these problems”, I saw an article that the Jets signed Anders Carlson to kick for them. I thought our old friend Riley Patterson was their kicker after they had open tryouts when the Jets finally got rid of Zurlein. So, check this out.

On October 27th, Zurlein costs the Jets the game against the Patriots. Jets now have a short week to play Houston on October 31st.

On October 30th, the Jets signed Riley Patterson and Spencer Shrader to the practice squad to replace Zurlein. Riley Patterson was competing with Shrader, and was signed on October 31st. Patterson kicked in the Houston game for them, and while he made his FG’s and XP’s, shocker, his short leg meant he had no touchbacks and the Jets wanted someone with more power.

November 8th, the Jets release Patterson, sign Anders Carlson from 49ers to their PS and elevate Spencer Shrader from PS to the 53 man roster. Key word, elevated. Not signed. Spencer Shrader made both field goals in the Arizona shellacking on November 10th. The Jets were happy with Shrader, and were planning to keep him.

However, on November 14th, news came in that Harrison Butker was hurt and will be out for a month. No less than 30 minutes from when the Jets Special Teams coach gave an interview praising Shrader, the Chiefs had promptly called Shrader and offer him a roster spot. The Jets caught wind of it and tried to offer him a roster spot as well, to which I am sure we all know what his reaction was given that Sophie’s Choice and he hopped on the first flight to KC.

The Jets now use Anders Carlson to kick in the Sunday game against the Colts, and signed him to their active roster today. 3 different kickers in 3 weeks. I am not sure Joe Douglas will be putting this sequence of events on his resume for his next job.

Interesting, i didnt realize that ps players could decline their current team in that situation?

As my understanding, any team can sign any player off of a practice squad, but they have to remain on that team’s roster for I think for 3 full weeks. Since the Jets didn’t originally offer Shrader a contract and KC did, KC technically would’ve had first dibs. Jets offered him a contract after KC did in an effort to keep him, but at point Shrader can pick from any team that offered him.

Basically, the Jets tried to play the game of we will call you up from the PS squad for the 3 elevations, then make a decision. What they didn’t count on was Shrader played well enough that he caught attention and KC then had an injury and immediate need for a kicker. The Jets tried to play the game, but the game ended up playing them instead.

2025 -recouping pick we trade for Manu OT
2026
2027

In 2023 we took BroMart late 3rd
In 2022 we took Kerby late 3rd
In 2021 we took Iffy late 3rd

I think teams hiring coaches this offseason will be focused on “culture” more than ever before, which will help all Lions candidates, not to mention guys like Vrabel and Dan Lanning. I’d be shocked if AG wasn’t a strong candidate in NY and elsewhere.

But selfishly I hope he goes to NO, where they’ve already got a GM in place, Ben stays another year, then takes Agnew with him when he goes. That would be 4 years worth of comp picks. :smirk: :smirk: :smirk:
