well will be sitting out the year as he is officially under contract and the Browns will always Brown so probably won’t let him get another job this year if he wanted it.
Todd Monken’s press conference made it easy for Jim Schwartz to say adios.
As Starman said, basically sitting out the season
someone would have to trade for him and knowing the Browns they would want a FRP for him
EDIT: apparently hes signed through 2027, as Browns have a Team Option on his contract so yeah
knowing the Browns… hes likely sitting on his ass for these 2 years
I wonder why this sort of situation doesn’t happen more frequently?
I guess teams just fire coordinators at the end of the season when they also fire the head coach?
Bad decision Jim. Just nuked your chance of every becoming a head coach most likely.
Still immature after all these years.
It really did, idk how he will be a HC now with this behaviour
I get it, Browns is the Browns, and i would to be frustrated with not getting the HC job after being there for a while, but… yeah idk
Weird situation for him now, hes kinda stuck there for a bit not doing anything unless a team trades for him
I’d say he still has a chance
Everybody knows the Browns are a hot mess
But his history of immaturity is a good point
I’m not seeing it as immature
Why work where you are not wanted? Maybe they lied to him about promotion chances
The dude isn’t defined by the job so I’m actually kind happy his is doing his own thing and not conforming to the masseS
Its typically handled like adults. If the new HC wants his own DC, they mutually part ways with the current DC. If the current DC doesn’t want to stay, they mutually part ways. If the new HC wants the current DC, the new HC sits down with the current DC and they hash out an agreement. If they cannot come to an agreement, they mutually part ways.
What’s going on in Cleveland is not how business is typically done.
It totally killed his guys career when he resigned. Sometimes you have to do what’s right for you.
Could he get a college HC gig?
Exactly… imho I feel Jim is making the right move for himself - NFL he dammed
Which is why they had to hire someone like Monken to begin with. Coach after coach pulled their names out of the running.
Bill isn’t what I would call the most mature guy. He is after all dating someone in their mid 20s. But he knows the cards he has and he knows when to play them. He’s also made a lot of enemies which he seems ok with.
Bill wasn’t comfortable with Jets new ownership. I think he was proven right on that one, and clearly did what was best for his career. Jim is in a similar situation.
I agree with DeadDog and Mr Peabody. I don’t think this is immature at all. The reports were that Schwartz really felt like he was really being considered for HC. He has prior experience, the players really like him, he has done great as a DC there, and he clearly wanted the job. Cleveland interviewed him, apparently led him to believe he was truly a serious candidate, then picked someone else.
If you are Schwartz, it’s now evident you work for an organization that wants to keep you stuck in your current place, but doesn’t believe that you are the right guy to lead the team so no room for growth. Now, you have a new boss coming in who is not someone who picked you and has no allegience to you. You know you are basically being kept around to keep the players happy. That puts you in a pretty horrible place professionally.
I don’t blame Schwartz for wanting out. The immature thing in my opinion would be to sit back and collect a paycheck for two years, today’s version of quiet quitting. He could also basically sit and watch a potential mutiny form for the players who wanted him vs the ownership who didn’t if the new guy struggles. Instead he chose to remove himself from the situation at the cost of a guaranteed paycheck for 2 years. I don’t think Schwartz made a bad decision here, and every team in the NFL knows exactly what Mr Peabody said. The way the Cleveland Browns are operating is not how you conduct business among professionals.
I think Cleveland wanted to do right by Jim, then let him out of his contract. You can say that Jim resigned, but we are terminating his contract to allow him to pursue other opportunities. Mike Tomlin once said, we want volunteers, not hostages. That’s a good way to operate.
Edit to add on: I think one of the worst things a company can do to a person is not be straight with them. I think one of the worst feelings you can have as an employee is the minute you realize and know for certain that your job is lying to you. I think Jim got to that feeling.
With the type of money being thrown around college football right now that seems like a good option for him.
I’m not sure he would want to deal with what college football has become.
Call me when he gets a head coaching job in the NFL. I’ll be waiting.
