That shit does not go over well in locker rooms, and the NFL is very, very, very small community.
Gannon’s an Alopecia’f sh!t.
Now if you will excuse me I need to go get slapped by Will Smith.
He went from being defensive coordinator of a 14-3 team to HC of a 1-8 team that hasn’t had its’ starting QB since the beginning of the season. If he keeps losing after Murray gets back, Bidwell may have a short leash.
Then to top it off, they trade the poor bastard to Minnesota of all places.
Double whammy
Weirdest part about trading Dobbs…
is they gave him away for a ham sandwich.
Lil’ Kyler hasn’t been an iron man by any stretch…
and Dobbs is a smart guy that might be a decent voice in the ear of a starter.
I’m sure Brad looked over Arizona’s 2024 FA list that may be good candidates as I’m sure many would accept less to come here.
There are two possibilities, gannon lied to his face or he was overruled and doesnt have say in his team… either one is a bad bad look and doesnt bode overly well for that organization
The Cardinals franchise is a complete disaster at this point.
The Cardinals are another “Patriot Way” team where their GM is a former New England front office staffer.
The way that they’ve handled their backup QB situation the whole season has been weird.
Colt McCoy was their long term backup. He’d spent 2+ seasons with the team and was presumed to be their starter until Murray came back all training camp. Then on August 28 he was cut to the surprise of everyone.
Joshua Dobbs was traded to the Cardinals on August 24. Week 1 was September 10 and Gannon was noncommittal about the starter until a few days before the game.
Dobbs played respectably (last game was a game where the Cardinals scored 24 points against the Ravens) but the Cardinals fan base was done with him:

To me, the cutting of McCoy and the trade of Dobbs signaled that the Cardinals are trying to tank. They’re trotting Kyler Murray out there to showcase himself for a trade but if he gets hurt again they want to ensure they get the best draft capital imaginable.
The problem, for them, is that Patriot Way means that they’ll either bungle the draft or bungle the development of the players that they do draft.
It definitely matters, but Gannon has a lifeline if he meant it. Mike Vrabel was being 100% genuine when he assured AJ Brown that he would be okay and things were being worked out. The GM traded Brown anyways. Vrabel was pissed. Brown destroyed the Titans when they played. The GM was fired. Vrabel is still there.
With Arizona… I’m not sure it has to be an “either or” situation.
Gannon could have very well said that…
then jumped right on board when the owner pitched the idea.
The return was so minimal… really makes me wonder if somebody wanted to protect Lil’ Kyler’s ego….
Luckily they got Murray on a real team friendly deal. Haha
He just knew he wouldn’t be there long enough to worry about it.
Yea, what a goat F that is
Only if you have a very naive locker room that doesn’t understand the coldblooded nature of the business. Even we fans hear of such things happening all the time. Ditto for fans who grumble about player holdouts & guys not taking “hometown discounts”, etc.
The only surprising thing to me is that Dobbs was surprised by it & has been foolish enough to kvetch. So much for IQ.Talking out of school like that could have serious repercussions for his employability. As you say, small community, especially of decision-makers/purse string holders.
Maybe GM Gannon is a lying douche. Maybe owner Bidwell, who is known for meddling, made him into a liar, who knows ?
I’d be surprised if Holmes hasn’t had to burn a player or two in similar situations. Heck, didn’t they cut that longtime longsnapper on his birthday ?!
Did Dan look him in his eye and assure him that he wouldn’t be cut?
While he wasn’t traded, isn’t that kind of what happened to David Blough. He was cut last season and ended up going to the Vikings (ironically) and then Arizona (ironically) before rejoining us to the practice squad this year.
Sorry but there is no job security for a 2nd/3rd string QB.
That’s cool if it is the understanding……
but if the head coach tells a guy he isn’t getting traded…
but then they trade that guy….
it looks pretty shetty.
