Juice Scruggs

So what do we know about him?

Is he capable or has the possibility to be the starting Center?

Someone mentioned he played Guard last season and that was not his best position?

I would really like to see BH get the big holes filled before the Draft so he can take the best available rather than be position focused. Outside of the CB draft that included Manu I think BH has been really good.

I suspect he is the GG replacement. And what I mean by that is the 7th/8th/9th lineman battling for either the LG spot/backup center spot.

Cutting GG saves us 5.5m

So 2M with DMo trade and another 5.5 by booting GG

So I expect they are trying to get the books right

Depth piece. As @JD9 said GG is likely cut now. End of story unless he proves otherwise.

Depth just as Graham was. Difference is: He’s younger. And, he can still be developed.

Scouting report pre-draft:

“A two-year starter with center/guard versatility, Scruggs is dependable and consistent in carrying out his assignment to the best of his ability. He plays like a block of granite that is difficult to push back or knock off-balance, but he’s more of a neutralizer than road grader. He plays with solid technique and possesses the play strength to hold his own in the middle. The lack of foot quickness shows up with athletic defenders leaking around his edges and that issue could be exacerbated if teams play him at guard. Scruggs has the potential to go from backup to eventual starter if the situation is right.”

Well, unathletic it sounds like, but if he isn’t getting flat out run over like GG did many times last year, that alone is an upgrade. Depends on what he’s like between the ears though, if he’s going to be a center.

Worst case scenario back up, but he may not make the team. He’s not a good player at all. GG is still 20x’s better.

Sounds like a Center.

I believe, that’s exactly what he is. That’s where he’ll begin getting reps…I imagine.

He’s a backup C. Yes, the Texans took him in the 2nd, but that was a big surprise. That year he was mostly mocked on day 3, though I might have seen a few with him as a late 3rd rounder. That said he’s young and has some upside (as a C only imo), but I wouldn’t expect him to reach it.

I wouldn’t be completely shocked if he didn’t make the team. I wouldn’t be on that, but that’s a more likely outcome than him being a starter imo.

Penn State guy, generally the upper crust big 10 teams olinemen are decent. Generally.

Ya know, he was a starter on TWO Texans teams that went to the playoffs!

How bad can he be? The Texans like to trade their O-lineman.

Just posted @Thats2 in the other thread.

He’s Kingsley Egkuban replacement.

Yeah I saw. I think that is far more like to be Seth McLaughlin though, I like his long-term prospects much more.

He has starter potential but has been more of a swing IOL for most of his career.

He’s an insurance policy incase we can’t find a quality starter and a depth guy along the interior if we do.

I think we will look for a quality starting center via FA but likely won’t find one and then turn to the draft for a solution. Problem is this draft isn’t the greatest. Lots of potential but it’s missing the slam dunk high end starters at center. So we will likely draft a player with potential….. having a guy who has starter potential and experience practicing next to that guy will give the coaches a measuring stick to gauge against and someone for the rookie to lean on.
