I mean, I don’t think stem cells are a hail mary… I’ve seen crazy injuries heal from stem cells… Torn rotator cuff completely erased from stem cell therapy, same with neck and back injuries. Obviously it’s not a good situation, but I’m going to assume smarter people who actually know what’s going on are recommending the best treatment
He gas been very spot on in the past in terms of time tables and how good they will be.
And based on the historical context of how players deal with this kind of issue. And that he played on it all 6 games. Making it worse causing permanent damage. And hes a speedy safety. The position that needs his knees to work.
Yea he needs a miracle just to come back and be an average player and play 20+ games a season let alone the level he was at pre injury
Definitely not a positive when Dan said “long term issue” which makes me lean toward articular cartilage vs. meniscus. Also, if it was a meniscus they would have cleaned it up (Frank came back after a week I think…fn warrior!!!) or did a repair which is a longer rehab.
Once you start stripping down articular cartilage it’s extremely difficult to regenerate. Micro fracture was the wave to tap into the bones blood/stem cells and with new technology stem cells can be utilized without the micro fracture procedure.
IMO the Lions are really conservative with the rehab process ie. return to play and that makes me lean that we are dealing with a minor change in the cartilage at the point due to extensive rest, rehab and progression to the field. Kerby unable to return is not positive but hopefully with full offseason and treatments mentioned he can get some regrowth. Plus he needs plenty of time to recondition any growth to prevent wear down.
Unfortunately even if he does return next year he is one athletic move away from starting all over again with increased damage. Fingers crossed.
I have concerns about Kerby’s long term health and have mentioned it several times this offseason but I don’t care about internet doctor predictions.
My dad is about 7 weeks past his stroke now. Would I count on internet doctors the past 7 weeks? Hell no.
Love ya brother, but it sounds like you’re not familiar with Dr. Chao. He’s not some “random internet doctor,” he’s one of the most respected voices in sports medicine and worked for nfl teams for almost 2 decades. This would be like reading a written opinion piece on QB play by Peyton Manning and saying “I don’t care what some wanna be sports blogger had to say.”
I get it’s hard to hear/read, and it’s upsetting, but there is FAR more weight to what he’s saying than you are giving credit here. Respectfully. And I don’t like it either.
My knee is messed up. My doctor offered me the MACI procedure. So far I haven’t needed it. Just have to avoid deep knee bends as that’s where I don’t have cartilage.
Yea I agree with you to an extent, but where I have a problem is this statement right here It was acknowledged Dr. Chao had not reviewed any of Joseph’s medical charts.
Then why even speculate or comment, because really without looking at the medical charts he is somewhat guessing based on what he had heard, not witnessed.
I don’t that is my whole point. The article is just to frenzy feed to the fan base and purely speculate that Kerby will be lucky to play 2 years.
If I was Kerby I would be pissed, truth or not, the guy is affecting what his perceived value is.
I get they asked him and he gave an opinion, but you have to agree, that opinion is based on limited knowledge of exactly what is going on with his knee
