Yes. We mostly agree. If Snead cost less than a first for the right to sign him then I would do that.
We definitely agree on that. I don’t think people value that 1st-round-fifth-year-option as much as they should. They’re going to pay ARSB a year earlier than they would have (not that I have any problem with that, just an example)
Matt Stafford did not get boo’ed for being in a Lion’s jersey, He got boo’ed because circus monkeys tried to run the team for twelve years, Stafford’s own play suffered under them and he got crucified for the results- had Stafford , have anything CLOSE to the leadership we enjoy now? Holy $#@ Stafford would-have been seen in a very higher light, than he was-while here.
Yep. I am surprised every year. Which is somehow ridiculous, you would think I would learn after a while… but the contract numbers are always crazy.
Serious question, because I do not really know. How many guys signed to ‘big’ contracts at CB after age 29 have lived up to that contract? There could be several, I don’t really know. The only DBs I remember playing really solidly into their mid-30s are hall-of-fame type guys (Woodson, Barber, etc)
I just feel like a lot of those ‘big’ deals for CBs end badly. Nnamdi Asomugha (spelling?) was great for a year or two, and then became very over-priced (if I remember). There are a lot more examples. I just think 20+ million for a guy who will (very understandably) lose a step in the next year or two is not a great move…

Ramsey 5 years ago… sure. But corners over 30 making huge money. Pass.
You should review the performance of the all time great CBs. Typically the Cliff is actually 32ish
Sure some have managed to keep it going. Also lots of examples that haven’t. The contract is the main problem. Like @deadstroke said Miami would have to eat a lot of the contract to trade him.
But it’s not some of the all timers. From what I can tell it’s most. Jalen Ramsey is typically in top 25 corners of all time lists. Usually near the back and if not he’s usually in the conversation. He’s considered a great and amongst those the track record is far better than most are making it out to be.
Rod Woodson - Barry blows out his ACL in his age 30 season and Woodson makes the Pro Bowl and finishes seventh I defensive player of the year in his age 31 season.
Charles Woodson - Green Bay signs him at age 30. He makes
the Pro Bowl as CB four more times including a DPOY as a 33 year old CB.
Richard Sherman - tears his Achilles as a 29 year old and still makes first team All Pro as a 31 year old.
Ty Law - Pro Bowl as a 31 year old.
Deion - last pro bowl at 32 years old
Revis - last Pro Bowl at 30 years old.
So the track record at 30 and 31 amongst the All Timers is really quite good. And amongst the guys that can pivot to a zone style (and Jalen absolutely will be able to IMO) have even more legs to them. And I think Jalen can still be a pain in press.
As for @DeadStroke’s point I agree to an extent. I went the other way to keep the pick compensation down. I’m not sure that you can get nearly 10m picked up by the Dolphins but I can understand the reasoning. Ultimately I think it’s all moot bc as @Blizer pointed out the incentive structure is such for Miami as not to reboot until Hill retires.
If dallas did get Ramsey they’d probably be #1 for food and nutrition rankings in the next nflpa survey. ![]()
