Way too many of these pundits are taking GB. I think they’re more likely to miss the playoffs than sniff the Super Bowl.

I think the Bears have a better chance of eclipsing the Packers than the Pack has of eclipsing the Lions.

Damn i couldn’t disagree more with you on this one man

GB is the 2nd best team in the NFC this year

I think us, SF and Philly are better (or at least more talented in Philly’s case). I think Seattle, LAR, Arizona, Chicago, TB, Atlanta and Dallas could be better. They’re in that tier to me, and a few of those teams won’t be making the playoffs.

Everyone acts like they were so hot to end the year, but everyone forgets they lost to the Giants, got hammered by Tampa in Green Bay, and needed a miracle to beat Carolina - the worst team in the league. They had some impressive wins too, but they’re far too Jekyll and Hyde to win it all imo.

And as @CuriousHusker points out, Love got insanely lucky last year. He makes some incredibly bone-headed decisions. The 1st TD against us on Thanksgiving is an example. That was a terrible decision, a poor pass, and yet somehow it worked out. He made some really bad decisions that bit him in the ass at the end of the playoff game against Dallas, but they’d gotten so far ahead (through Aaron Jones) that it didn’t matter. Then he lost them the game against SF in the playoffs. He’s got a longer way to go that people think.

If Love keeps playing well, Packers absolutely have a great chance.

No chance in hell is Baltimore winning the AFC this year, let alone the Super Bowl

No? They came within inches last year, seems like they’re pretty damn close to me. I wouldn’t pick them either, but I wouldn’t say they had no chance in hell.

I’ll be cheering for the Ravens tonight that’s for sure. ■■■■ KC…so sick of them.

With the most dominant team the league has seen in a while. They really had no excuse to not win it all last year, but they beat themselves in the AFC Championship.

The reason I see them falling off is that their true competitive advantage is gone, which was their monopoly on the current dominant system in the game. The Michigan/Ravens defense stopped basically everyone that faced it last season at both levels of the game, and for the last couple of years, some VERY good offensive coaches haven’t been able to crack the code. Mike Macdonald was the only one running that system in the NFL last season, and with Lamar on the other side of the ball, they beat the absolute crap out of some really good teams.

Some notable results:

56-19 vs. Miami
37-3 vs. Seattle
38-6 vs. Detroit
33-19 @ San Francisco
25-9 vs. Houston
28-3 @ Cleveland
23-7 @ Jacksonville
34-10 vs. Houston (Divisional)

They also should’ve beat both Indy and Pittsburgh the first time, gave up a huge lead against Cleveland, and then didn’t play Lamar against Pittsburgh the second time and almost won anyway. I would argue they should’ve won every single game they played last season, and that they were probably about 8 plays from doing just that. They would’ve kicked the 49ers’ ass again if they played them in the Super Bowl too.

Now, here are the different teams that will be running a variation of that Michigan/Ravens defense…

Baltimore
Seattle
LAC
Tennessee
Miami

The architect of the defense, Mike Macdonald, is gone to Seattle, and now there’s going to be a lot more exposure to that system around the league.

The Ravens lost their DC, DB coach, DL coach, and have a new LB coach (former Lions LB coach Mark DeLeone). They also lost 15 free agents this offseason, and will be playing with three new offensive lineman this upcoming year.

And to replace all they lost, they signed…29 year old Derrick Henry? Who’s already about two or three years past when he should’ve started declining as a RB?

Baltimore IMO is a textbook example of year-over-year regression and inconsistency in this league. I don’t think they’re going to be terrible or anything, but there’s absolutely no way they’re as good as they were last year.

They also get Andrews back, but I get your point.

The thing is though, no one saw them coming like that last year. Their OL was journeymen and youngsters. They were totally revamping their offensive system. Their RBs were meh. Their top, non-TE pass-catching options were a rookie, a guy who’d had a year off (ODB), and a bust (Bateman). Then their starting TE missed almost the entire last half of the season. Oweh was a bust, Ojabo was hurt, they had no way to pressure the QB, they didn’t have anyone to play across from Humphrey, who himself had surgery right before the season and would miss the first 4 games. Lots and lots of questions.

Then they were dominant. I wouldn’t put it past them to answer all of the questions this year about them in a similar fashion.

Overall though I agree they’re a good candidate for regression. I guess I just think “no chance in hell” is stating it a little strong. This is the NFL, weird shit happens, and they’ve been a model franchise since Harbaugh got there, pretty much. It wouldn’t surprise me all that much if they won the AFC. A little, but I definitely think there’s a chance in hell.

My main concern is defensive brain drain. I can’t remember the last time a team lost that much in one offseason.

They’re slappies that hate change.
Jordan Love is not Erin Rogers. Not even close.

Change?
They had GB losing, same ole same ole…
jk

Yeah that is a totally valid concern. They may take a step back defensively. But if they can take a step forward offensively - or more than that - they could still be better overall.

Green Bay crushed the Lions late in the year, crushed Dallas and damn near beat the Niners with a young team with perceived growth potential so the hype is justified IMO.

And at the same time lost to the Giants, got hammered at home by TB, and needed a miracle to beat Carolina - the worst team in the league. They’re too up-and-down to be considered great imo.
