I really hate the idea of ACC and Big 12 becoming second-class citizens. And I hate the fact that everyone’s just accepted it.
That’s not what I’m saying. It should be the top four ranked team’s regardless of conference affiliation.
And what about Boise State’s run am I supposed to be so impressed by?
Should be sure but it’s not so the discussion is about the current format.
Boise hasn’t done anything overly impressive (close loss to Oregon, beat Washington State and Texas Tech I guess) but a 2-3 loss Big 12 team with few quality wins outside of BYU isn’t impressive either so go with the 1 loss team in that scenario whose one loss was to the #1 team in the county by a hair.
But they are second class citizens compared to the SEC and Big 10.
Or maybe you mean you hate the idea of these super conferences fazing out the ACC and Big 12. That I can agree with.
My comment was about how ludicrous that aspect of the tournament is.
They are now, but they weren’t in the 80s and 90s (in fact the Big 8/Big 12 was the best conference in the country then) and have been maneuvered there by the suits at ESPN because of their small population bases. I hate it.
Can’t argue that but it’s like that in pro sports too like the NFL example I used when a division winner with a worse record gets a higher seed than a wild card team.
It’s going to happen this season with an NFC West and NFC South champ having a worse and possibly quite a bit worse record than the NFC North wild card team or teams even. Stupid but it is what it is
I think in the long run college football conferences will start taking on the shape of the NFL conferences. Right now they are forced to live with a certain level of subjectivity in deciding the playoff teams overall, yet instituted a certain level of objectivity when deciding which of those teams get the first round bye.
So as the playoff format evolves I hope we see almost all subjectivity taken out of the equation. But with that, we will see things like Boise getting slotted above Ohio State in the bracketing.
As @NYLion59 has already stated. That is exactly what we see in the NFL as well. Division winners slotted above Wildcards regardless of record.
But it’s not the same. The crappy division winner doesn’t get a bye.
Klatt on his teams in now, no matter what happens.
TX, UGAcTN
PSU OSU OR IN
ND
Next three:
ACC champ
Big 12 champ
MW champ
Bubble for the last spot.
SMU if they lose
AL
OleMiss
South Carolina
Miami
His prediction is AL will be the last team over Ole Miss. His focal point is the brand will carry the day, not that he is arguing for it.
His playoff discussion starts around the 43min mark in the youtube video I posted in another thread.
Discusses Lane Kiffin tweet and then Brett Bielema’s troll tweet at Kiffin.

It’s between the 3 SEC teams basically. Alabama probably has the best resume of the three even with the worst losses and name brand. They’re in. Miami and SMU, assuming they lose, have no realistic chance IMO.
Lol just busting your chops… I didn’t think it would be close either.
Definitely some interesting games in there.
I think the four teams from B1G/SEC title games are guarranteed in. I am curious to see how they are seeded if both UGA and PSU lose, which is what I expect to happen.
Then what happens if SMU loses, do they still get in? Not sure on what convincing wins they have? If they were to still make it in, who goes out? AL or IU?
AL with a couple of really good wins but two bad losses, bad, losses where they were 20pt favorites. IU, played no one except for OSU and got killed.
I might put my college tuition on Tennessee beating Ohio State. That’s the biggest lock of the entire bracket.
They’re a horrific matchup for us.
Well, to be consistent, I’ve said all along that Day struggles in these big games so it wouldn’t surprise me at all.
Tennessee scares me the most of any team we’d have to play to get to the national championship, including Oregon.
That was the game that drew my attention right away, 8 and 9 seed and probably the best game of the 4.
Indiana would get killed by GA and I think Penn St would run over AZ St
