Montana State’s Troy Andersen, the Combine’s fastest LB at 4.42 official, just hit 3.99 SS & 6.72 3C at pro-day. Andersen didn’t do shuttles at Combine and both of times are significantly faster than any LB at Indy. Andersen continues crush pre-draft process from Mobile!
Very impressive, sheesh. Guy could creep into the 1st round discussion at this rate. He’s still learning the position but he’s got that QB background that should help him tremendously. Major, major upside.
Mamuuuuuuuuula?
Sheesh, it looks like we’d have to take him at 34? We have a pretty strong reputation in the 2nd round so I’d hate to break up our streak of success there.
If the smoke screen is valid and they DO feel good about their LB’s, it won’t matter. In the last 5 years over 30 LB’s have been drafted per draft on average I believe, so plenty of them are taken later. I think this puts more emphasis on really shoring up the safety position if it’s true that we are done with LB’s though.
Lots of quality LBs in this draft. If Anderson goes in the 2nd, just one less team that is taking Harris or Muma or Chanal.
When I first caught wind of this guy and knew little, I mocked him at #97, then #66 a bit before the combine, then prayed afterward that he’d last that long but knowing he wouldn’t. Now I’m not even sure he’ll last until #32, which is where I’d gladly take him. It’s not just the physical. He seems to have the football IQ/positional awareness that makes every physical trait better and will hasten his maturation as a linebacker.
I had Christian Watson at #32, but I now hope CW lasts to #34. Move over Christian: Luke Kuechly 2.0 is in town!!
Yeah I still think he’s more apt to go in the early-mid second, but there’s no doubt he’s absolutely crushed the pre-draft process.
Lol. That’s the ticket @Sofatso ! Love it. Yeah, this guy looked like the Terminator running the wildcat at QB before his position change. He’s a natural athlete that much is clear. I imagine after a year in a pro strength training program coming in at 243, he’ll likely bow up to 250-something and patrol the middle with a shotgun.

Out of curiosity… I took a screen shot of this video… which has 18k views.
I wonder how many views will be added as the draft approaches?
The athleticism of the linebackers that should be available in the third is pretty remarkable.
Muma 9.74 RAS
Smith 9.98
Chenal 9.99
Walker 9.6
Asamoah 8.83
Tindall 9.65
Clark 9.86
Beavers 9.74
Andersen 10
McFadden 9.44
Campbell 9.87
You can put that label on a bunch of the guys who should be available in the second round. It’s freaking crazy to me the depth of talent in this years draft.
Not top heavy by any means, but damn, can you get real talent way later than most years.

“Ward, don’t you think you’ve been a little hard on the Beaver?”

So what’s Anderson’s story?
I looked-up his stats and he has like almost none.
Apparently he had 150 tackles last year
He played for Montana as a RB and QB at first and had success, but switched to LB when it was clear he had enough talent for the NFL. So he’s still maturing at the position. Senior Bowl revealed that he can more than hold his own against elite major college players and the combine revealed part of the reason why.
Hmmm…looks like he moves very well for his size. Not sure if we need another project with our 2nd round pick, would rather have someone we just plug in. But I wouldnt be opposed I suppose.
